Hi
sorry everyone I am brand new have just joined and feeling totally lost!
I have been on combined contraceptive pill for about 15 years!
I am feeling so anxious about coming off it but defo want to TTC!
I am worried about awful PMS returning and also how long it will take for a regular cycle (that I can track) to return.
We have a backpacking holiday booked in 10 weeks…should I come off the pill now and will I have had a period by then and be able to know my cycle lengths or should I wait til the holiday is over?
I am worried about leaving it too late as I am not getting any younger (36) but don’t want a period on my holiday when we are backpacking all over as I know they used to make me pretty ill.
Looking for a bit of input about how long it took everyone’s periods to return and become regular after combined contraceptive pill thank you 😊

I was on Microgynon30 for 18 years, within 2 months of stopping I had a regular cycle.

Before I went on the pill I would get terrible period pain and it was quite heavy so I was worried about all that coming back. But it didn't! No cramps, no real PMS, light periods.

You never know how it will be for you though. I wouldn't particularly want to be backpacking around with that uncertainty, but on the other hand, that's another 3/4/5 months of holding off on TTC (you don't say how long you're backpacking for).

I was 38 and it took a year to get pregnant with a successful pregnancy, including 2 months after stopping the pill waiting for my cycle to settle down, one early miscarriage, one chemical and then finally this pregnancy. You're a few years younger, however!

Sorry, not much help! 😅

Thanks for your reply 😊 This is all brand new to me and after googling the last few weeks I thought it would be better to speak to real people who had gone through the same things!
We are just going to be away for 3 weeks, but it’s August by the time we get back so like you say it’s putting TTC back by another 3 months.
I’ve also considered just stopping the pill now and then buying some norethisterone to stop a period if I have one whilst we’re away as apparently that doesn’t affect your ovulation etc so it’s fine to use whilst TTC (according to Dr Google!)
I think I probably just need to take the plunge and come off the contraception and see what happens. It’s just so weird for me when I’ve been so in control of my bleeding for so long!
Are you currently pregnant? Is it your first? 😊

Yep, almost 28 weeks with our first 😊
It's the uncertainty isn't it....you could stay on the pill, stop when you get back in August, and be one of those who gets pregnant immediately!
