Malaria and conception?

I know medical advice is what I need here, but I’ve spoken to the nurse, the pharmacist, the travel clinic and a GP and I’ve been given several different answers, so trying here too!

My husband and I want to start trying for a baby ASAP however we go on safari in August to a high risk malaria area. Because of this, we’ve put off trying to conceive so far.

What we want to know is:

  • Can we start trying for a baby whilst taking anti-malarials?

  • Which malaria tablets will be best for our situation?

  • How much longer are we going to have to wait?

We didn’t consider all of this when we booked the safari, now beginning to wish we hadn’t!

Any advice at ALL appreciated!

What does the travel advice say for that area? Where are you going?

Did you get any answers in the end??

thanks x

@AWS06 we took malarone and kept taking them when we got back for about three days less than it suggested to, then waited another fortnight I think it was before we started trying. I got pregnant first try and now have a perfectly healthy 12 week old!
