Hi there!

39, have a 6 month old baby, uncomplicated pregnancy and birth. We tried for over a year to get pregnant with baby #1 and it took a major health kick on both sides, diet, exercise, supplements, weird and wonderful practices plus lots and lots of timed sex to get pregnant. Losing weight, baby aspirin and levothyroxine seemed to do the trick in the end.

We're getting married in a couple of months, then after that we want to ttc for #2 as obv I am on the older end of the Mum spectrum. I just wondered if any similar aged mums had found it easier or harder to get pregnant for their second attempt?

I was 32 when I started trying for my first she took 5 years and a round of IVF and I was a month off my 38th birthday when she was born. DS was a surprise conception when she was 18 months old and I was 40 when he was born.

Conceived first straight away, second we tried for a long time then needed fertility treatment. I think from talking to friends, these things don't really follow any hard and fast rules that you can draw from first to second pregnancy!

My son took 6 months to conceive (27 at the time), I am now pregnant with my 2nd and conceived first cycle (now 32) xx

Hugasauras · 19/04/2022 07:26

First took six months at 32. Second first cycle at 36.

I stopped taking the pill, had one period and was pregnant. I only tried for 3 months to get pregnant with my first. We are a bit like that in my family.

I think everyone is different. Dc1 took one cycle at 30 and im 37 now and ttc no2 for nearly 2yrs. We can't have any helof of the nhs and cant afford private.

Took us nothing with dc1 and almost 4 years with dc2. You never know

Skyeheather · 19/04/2022 12:43

Harder - conceived DC1 first try at 38.
Took five months to conceive at 42 but miscarried at 12 weeks then took four months after that to conceive DC2.

Easier for me.
14 months of scheduled sex and every vitamin going as well as acupuncture for our first.
Just conceived our second using the pull out method. Which obviously doesn't work Grin

baby2in2022 · 19/04/2022 22:06

Forgot to add was 34 (had him at 35) with my first and I'm 36 now and will be 37 when this baby is born xx

Doloresabernathy42 · 19/04/2022 22:06

9 months with DS1 and 1 month with DS2.

I had much more sex with DS2 and had come off my pill six months beforehand though.

GingerFox2021 · 19/04/2022 22:36

I conceived DD on first cycle. Trying 1,5 years for number 2 - still nothing.

JanuaryBirthdays · 20/04/2022 11:11

First took 2 months ended in miscarriage at 7 weeks age 23.
Second (now DS) took 13 cycles age 25.
Third (DS2) took one cycle age 26.
Fourth age 32, 1 cycle ended in missed miscarriage at 12 weeks.
Fith and current 9 week pregnancy 1 cycle age 32.

Third, fourth and fith pregnancy's only had sex once in the month also. Appreciate we have been lucky with fertility despite the worrying 13 months initially at the beginning with having sex very regularly.
