Miscarriage 3 weeks ago - is this a bfp?

Sadly I had a miscarriage at 8.5 weeks and had to have surgery on the 24th March.

They have said that if you are still showing a positive pregnancy test after 3 weeks to call them.

The pregnancy test I did last Sunday was very faint and you could barely see the line. It took a few minutes to show.

I took one this morning and it came up instantly and a lot darker.

Could I have fallen pregnant again? We have been trying and it would match up with the dates when we had sex on the 28th/29th.

Could anyone help or give me your thoughts? I'd love it to be positive but obviously don't want to delude myself either! Stranger things have happened though right?

It could absolutely be a BFP! My friend MC years ago and caught straight away with her DD, the GP didn't believe it was a new BFP and just told her it was from her last pregnancy. However it was indeed a new one :)

It's still best to go and speak to someone as they might want to do an early scan to verify? Xx

I think there is some evidence you are actually extra fertile straight after an early miscarriage. I have at least twice conceived 2-3 weeks after an early loss (though earlier than yours -- more like 5 weeks). It's definitely possible.

It's just so hard to know but the fact that it's gone much stronger makes me think I could be? But then I'm worried there might be something left behind?

Same brand of test too.

You need to phone the epu. I would highly doubt that you'd ovulate 4days after surgery as usually it's two weeks after your period in a normal cycle. It's much more likely to be left over from your miscarriage but not impossible. Get checked asap. I always waited one cycle after my losses and that was 6 weeks and 7weeks for period to return so probably not ovulating for around 4weeks but everyone is different.

Thank you but would it go from being almost clear to back to being a strong positive?

It could do depending on the concentration of your urine at the time. It's not impossible it's a new pregnancy but it's the least likely option. Either way you need to get seen. If it's retained product that needs sorting so contact the epu who could do a scan or blood test to confirm one way or the other.
kalidasa · 11/04/2022 14:40

Can you do another test OP -- maybe a slightly less sensitive one in a couple of days? If that's positive too I would assume a new pregnancy. But since they told you to let them know if you were still positive after three weeks it would be worth calling them too to ask for advice.

lettyloulou · 11/04/2022 14:41

I would agree to ring the EPU and get seen. It's possible it could be a new pregnancy but it is very soon so the odds of another successful egg release and fertilisation in 2-3 weeks after the surgery is probably low. I had a mc in April 2021 and it took nine weeks to get a negative test so I understand the hell of it all 🙂 best to get some medical advice x

What happened @Diamondbabe?
would love to know the latest as I’m in the same situation. I miscarried at 9 weeks 3 weeks 3 days ago. I know there was nothing left as I ended up in hospital because of the bleeding so had lots of extra scans to say baby etc all gone. I wasn’t told to do a test within three weeks or anything but I did a test and it’s a faint but there positive

sorry you are going through this. It was from the old pregnancy. I had bloods done to see if it was increasing. I got my period 4 weeks later so similar to when I should have. Found out today I'm pregnancy again so only one cycle. So sorry you are having to go through this but hopefully you fall quickly again soon x

Diamondbabe · 21/05/2022 06:54

I'm so sorry, my friend had a still birth too and it was so traumatic. She had two miscarriages but has gone on to have a little girl last week. Please keep positive and trying, you'll get there x

It's so hard to not get your hopes up I was convinced it was a new pregnancy but it wasn't. I did dall again very quickly they say you are very fertile afterwards so let's hope x
