Anyone with any experience of purchasing Dhea in the UK from a reliable source my ivf doc suggested 25mg x 3 daily?

Hello, it looks like you need a prescription to get it in the UK. I did some research and on myovaterra.com/collections/fertinatal-dhea/products/fertinatal-1-pack-dhea-female-fertility-supplement it says you can contact one of those two clinics. I contacted Harley street and they told me that the medication is £100 and postage is £20 and usually takes 2-3 working days + £250 for a doctor appointment to prescribe it to you. I found this very unreasonable for one month’s supply. You may also try to order online a different brand or have friends abroad sending/ bringing it to you. All the best! 🤗

Hi I have since managed to get some thanks one of the lovely mums net ladies recommended a book called it starts with the egg to me and the author recommends getting it from biovea whom I ordered it from for about twenty quid also able to get melatonin no dramas and received in about a fortnight they are based in calgary did initially ask my GP for advice but was useless as had less knowledge about fertility than I do! Hmm

Can I ask what DHEA brand did you buy from Biovea? I am asking because I have also read "It starts with the egg" and she actually recommends micronised DHEA from Ovaterra - Fertinatal, Pure Encapsulations or Douglas Lab, and I have not been able to find any of these in the UK or to order online and have them shipped...

I know I couldn't find them either so just got what I could which was eurovital my gynaecologist said take 25mg 3 x daily and they are 25mg so not very scientific but there you are didn't have hundreds of pounds to spend on prescription in this country!

Please make sure that you have your testosterone levels checked before taking and regularly while taking DHEA. If your testosterone is too high it can have an adverse effect on the quality of your eggs.

I say this as someone whose fertility consultant pumped them full of DHEA and testosterone for IVF cycles which failed. It was only when I got a second opinion that it was found that I have naturally high testosterone anyway and needed medication to bring it down to optimum levels for fertility.

Rocsyt · 22/04/2022 08:30

@40ttc thank you, I will give it a try! It is really annoying that all of these need 2-3 months to work at a minimum when I just feel I don’t have any more time to lose…
@Pollywoddles i am having that tested through Medichecks as it’s impossible to get these tests through NHS…

Pollywoddles · 22/04/2022 10:06

@Rocsyt Glad to hear it, hope DHEA works for you!

40ttc · 22/04/2022 11:27

@Rocsyt i know what you mean I am naturally not overly good at waiting like to get things done! Fingers crossed for you x
@Pollywoddles yes I am trying to arrange tests through my fertility clinic as we are private nhs were not able to do anything for us, but otherwise will also use medichecks now I know that's an option

Hi I have used dhea to try and conceive. Had a number of mc over last 18m and have low amh and advised to get fertility treatment. Qas so upset and crying. Private basic checks revealed low progesterone and given 200mg a day pessaries. At the same time trying fertility accupunture. I also ordered cq10 and dhea from biovea (arrived quick)
Anyway not even used a week and have a faint positive. First day was 12th May and usually a 26 day cycle. Feel its too early to get excited.

I think the fertility scans checked ovaries and was advised ready to ovulate in 3 days so to get trying. Looks like may have worked.

Does anyone knw of should continue dhea or stop? I'm so desperate for this not to end in mc 😭

Tillyturtle78 · 02/06/2022 15:04

Also it's been 2 years and still not had the tests I need from nhs. I defo recommend trying to atleast get basic checks done privately. Waiting and not knowing is excruciating. At 39 Yr and low amh (0.6) I feel gutted I didn't do this sooner.

Pollywoddles · 02/06/2022 16:11

Why are you taking DHEA? Did you have low testosterone?

I highly doubt it’s anything to do with your bfp but clincs would advise you stop taking it when you get a positive test. 🤞🏻 for a sticky bean!

Pollywoddles · 02/06/2022 16:12

How many progesterone pessaries are you taking? Progesterone is what will sustain the pregnancy.

Tillyturtle78 · 02/06/2022 19:46

I'm taking 200mg x2 a day morning and night. I dnt knw I read on the forum dhea is good for low amh (0.6) and egg quality. I stopped taking it. Only took it two days.

My gp was awful (now in process on changing ) and I gt a private prescription from a clinic that does preg scanning and basic fertility checks. £85 for a 3 month supply. If I make it to 6 weeks will be going in for a check. If anything Is helping I'm convinced it's the progesterone.

Courtjobby · 02/06/2022 19:50

@40ttc please do the tests before starting DHA same thing happened to me as @Pollywoddles . I too had read the book It Starts With An Egg, I asked a cove consultant to prescribe it to me and he did with no blood tests. That round my egg quality really diminished. My next blood test showed my levels were far far too high.

Pollywoddles · 02/06/2022 21:31

@Tillyturtle78 You should only be taking DHEA if your testosterone is low and even then you need monthly blood tests to check your levels. Too low or too high testosterone will have an adverse effect on your egg quality so it’s not something to just start taking. It won’t have had any impact after 2 days, eggs are three months in the making so
don’t worry.

Progesterone dosage sounds perfect although I would try to get a blood test to make sure you’re absorbing enough as you have previously had low levels.
