HCG Blood Test

Hello All, we have been trying for a long time and have ended up with 3 chemical pregnancies so far. My period isn't due till Sunday and FR tests are so far negative. So, I booked a blood test for today to find out the HCG level. Is it too early?

Yes, way too early. I wouldn't do a blood test until two weeks after ovulation.

Why have you booked an HCG test anyway?

Hopeful40 · 28/03/2022 10:39

No, it hasn't been 2 weeks yet. But yes I booked the test for this afternoon

Why do you want to do a test?

I think it's a waste of money unless you have already got a positive HPT.

Just to give you an idea, I once got a line on a FRER and my blood HCG the next morning was 6. So they are very very very sensitive.

I am hoping the blood test can detect whatever FR couldn't but yes might be pointless...

Can you postpone it?

It's almost impossible to be pregnant and for it not to be detectable on a FRER.

What is your reason for wanting a blood test? It is to do with your CPs?

Do you know (roughly) when you ovulated? How many DPO are you? The egg may not have even implanted yet so no HCG will be produced.

How much is the blood test? It's not expensive in my GP. I don't know if they will detect anything yet. I would hold off until at least wed so you can repeat on Fri if they detect anything.

Hopeful40 · 28/03/2022 14:55

I have now cancelled the appointment. You ladies are right. If FR can't detect it, then a blood test won't help either.

Hang in there. You'll know soon enough.

Are you tracking your ovulation?
