should we ideally be having a month and with what frequency if we want to have another baby soooooon. We have ds who is a toddler and we decided we wanted to go down the baby road again about 6 months ago, but we have just emigrated, dh works LOOONG hours and we are both constantly exhausted. We try to make time to have sex and manage to fit it in (excuse the pun } several times a month because we enjoy it {of course} and because we are ttc. But 6 months on and Auntie flow keeps reappearing. We are both in our early 30s and had no probs conceiving DS. Any advice? Please?

GEt a copy of 'Taking charge of your fertility' can't remember the author

You need to find out when in your cycle you ovulate. If you're not having sex while ovulating you won't get pg, no matter how fertile you are. I can recommend a book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, which helps you to identify your fertile days.

If you can't be arsed with all that, when you notice you have copious amounts of clear/egg white like/stringy mucus, have sex every day and on the day after it has stopped. Good luck!

Great minds think alike!

Rantmum, we are in a very similar position! Finding the energy and time to BD with toddlers around is hard! We had no problems conceiving twins last time! No answers just sympathy!

Would agree with Move It re figuring out ovulation...although I haven't managed to get any ovulation sticks etc yet and am too knackered and up and down all night with toddlers to chart temps..

Hope you find an answer and get pg soon..

Thanks folks - will look out for that book. We have been trying to "time" our sex with what should be my fertile period (no use wasting the precious sex time we get on non-productive days) but to no avail. Thanks ILikeTo - I will try monitor my mucus more carefully .

teaches you to recognise when you ovulate and indeed if you are, in theory you are only fertile for a few days a month, find out when and if you're knackered you can conserve your energy for those days.

I took 2 years to get BFP with DD and decided I didn't want to hang around with child number 2. I had sex every day for a month and here I am 11 weeks pregnant.
Good luck

Oh, and don't try and conceive by only taking your temperature, as your temperature only rises after you have ovulated - ie the boat has sailed by then.

Rantmum · 06/01/2008 20:48

hattyyellow - good to hear we are not alone - hope that you have more success soon! I feel a bit silly worrying, partly because I know that we already have ds so we are luckier than alot of people, but I can't help feeling demoralised - we don't want a clan of children but would like at least one more if possible and it just ain't happening.

we went for every other day bare minimum and any extra times we felt like it my cycles are a bit haphazrd so i could never be 100% sure when i was ovulating. it took 4 mths to get pg with dd2 and with this dc i fell after my first af after having a miscarriage. dd1 and the baby i lost were accidental (but much wanted) . as for ovulation sticks, spend a fortune on them and you can guarentee (dont hold me to it ) before you get the chance to use them you'll get a bfp good luck

hattyyellow · 06/01/2008 20:50

cheers rantmum! i know, i am so lucky to have two perfect little girls already - i think it's come as a surprise (illogically) that we're into cycle 5 as it happened first time last time...good luck to you guys too.
