Hey, I was just wondering if anyone could maybe have any idea as to what’s happening with my ovulation. We’ve been trying for 3 of months now so not long at all and I’ve been using ovulations sticks to track ovulation and normally my lines get darker and darker till positive and then go light but this month they’ve got darker but not positive then suddenly really light so I’m wondering if I’m not going to ovulate this month? TIA

Hi @Georgia2609,

How often are you testing? maybe you just missed your peak?

Or maybe your body was preparing to ovulate but didn't for some reason, you may get another peak? What CD are you on xxx

I never got on with opk sticks. I use a reusable saliva opk. Mine is 'maybe baby' but there are other brands available. They are like a tiny microscope and well worth it.

I just looked them up! - I've never even heard of these before! Do you recommend it? Are you able to determined when you've ovulated or just it just tell you when you may be fertile?

xx

@Graceybaby- the saliva ones are like a tiny microscope. You put a blob of saliva on it and let it dry. You then look through it and can see shapes in the dried saliva (sorry, it sounds pretty gross!). Little blobs mean unfertile, blobs starting to make feathery, fern shapes is normally a few days before ovulation, and all fern shapes are peak.

It doesnt confirm if an egg was indeed released though- but other than a blood test/ultrasound, I dont know any test that does. I found the urine opks expensive, and I never got a dark line on them, where as the saliva one can be re-used 10x a day if you want and I always knew when the peak was.

Thank you! I'm definitely going to keep this in mind, will see how the next couple of cycles go then I may have to invest in one! x

Georgia2609 · 26/03/2022 11:13

@Graceybaby I’ve been testing once a day so if I had a short peak then I’m thinking I could’ve just missed it maybe

BBT is also good, you can get a thermometer off Amazon and fill in fertility friend a free app x

I really don't get on with the testing strips, I cant properly tell if I have peaked in the recommended window of up to timing 10 mins. I just use the Clearblue OPK, they are expensive, but I find great for building up data of when I ovulate each month. Occasionally I will peak on day 13, but mostly its day 15 or 16 for me. Essentially, it seems you need to be DTD before you get your peak anyway. Last time I had a MMC I know I DTD too late probably once I was about to ovulate or when I just had so it didn't take properly as the egg was probably too old i.e. 12-24hrs old.

Georgia2609 · 26/03/2022 22:57

@RMS0209 I’ve tried that but because my child wakes up I’m up and down in the night which means I don’t always do it the same time and sometimes I end up having to get up half hour before the time I’m meant to take it which messes it up because you’re meant to do it before you even move aren’t you so it makes my Graph go all over the place

@Georgia2609 hey! yeah around the same time, I ament a good sleeper as it is so mines varies around an hour or so x

Georgia2609 · 28/03/2022 12:46

I’ve ended up ovulating on CD20 which is so strange because my last cycle was 24 days

Graceybaby · 28/03/2022 13:06

@Georgia2609 Maybe your body was building up to ovulate but didn't for some reason.. if that happens I believe your body then tries again at a later stage. I think stress plays a part in this or have you been unwell lately? It will be interesting to see how long your cycle is this month?

Georgia2609 · 28/03/2022 14:43

@Graceybaby that makes a lot of sense because it seemed like the tests were going to go positive and then didn’t so maybe that happened! I haven’t been stressed or ill so it’s really strange 🤔 I was wondering how long it’ll be too

OP posts:
Graceybaby · 28/03/2022 14:48

@Georgia2609 it is strange! I guess there's multiple reasons why ovulation could have been delayed. You may be able to make more sense of it once this cycles over and you know how long it was. If your cycles the same length then if it were me I'd just right it off as an off cycle. Our bodies can be so weird and unpredictable sometimes! haha xx

Georgia2609 · 28/03/2022 21:56

@Graceybaby It’s probably just an off cycle because I’ve never had it happen before. Not sure if you’ll know but is it possible to still get pregnant this cycle even though it was a strange one, I know when I’ll ovulate now so know we had/will have sex at the right time

OP posts:
Graceybaby · 29/03/2022 11:53

Yes I believe so! I'm sure your Luteal phase will always stay the same, it will always be the same 'X' number of days give or take after ovulation so you're just have a longer cycle this time round I believe. It's the stage before ovulation that can vary but I believe the LP will stay the same. So yeah still possible to get your BFP! Fingers crossed 🤞☺️
