TTC while breastfeeding

Hi guys! I'm a breastfeeding mom to a 14 month old. We have been trying to have another child but it's not happening. My cycles have been irregular and had the last one 46 days ago. I have night weaned my child since 1 week and am feeding him at 7am, 3pm and 10pm. What more do I do for ovulation to come back without weaning him completely! Sad

Hi @bluemommy
I believe it works differently for every woman
Besides 1week is too soon imo. Give it a bit more time
I understand not want to completely wean but weaning may help if you have irregular periods

I will give you my experience
Period came back 8wks after and I did nothing
My dd is now 16months 1wk. Ebf for 8 months. She was a huge huge drinker. introduced solids but twas more 70/30
Only recently did it get to 50/50

Conceived 9 months pp which ended in cm

Conceived again end November had a MMC end Jan(contracted COVID v badly)

We Skipped February

ovulated 15/03.
I felt unusual symptoms all week so as of yesterday completely stopped bf because

  1. I recently had a MC 2)I have several large fibroids
  2. I got a vfbfp this morning

Am gutted to stop bf but I’d rather err on the cautious side as we really would like a sibling for dd
Hope it makes sense

I don’t think breastfeeding increases chance of miscarriage just messes up ovulation. I am still doing it once a day ish. Periods pretty regular but between 26-28 days so odd days out. Not pregnant yet but ovulation tests show it’s all happening. You have a 25% chance of it happening each month even if sperm and egg are at the right time so it’s also a lot of luck.

I also know a couple of people who fell pregnant very quickly with breastfeeding.

I had my first quite recently and I'm breastfeeding at the moment but want another soon. Is there any way to get your periods back without dropping feeds?

I don’t think so but my periods came back at 6 months despite me breastfeeding what felt like 24/7! I did use a dummy though which probably helped.

I had to wean and then periods returned. But we're so random and irregular. Read up on it and started taking vitamin b6. I feel pregnant the following month! Xx

It's different for everyone to be honest, I had to wean my first for my cervical mucus to come back and my cycles to regulate. It broke my heart to wean her but she was two and half and I'd realised that I was going to have to completely wean her if I didn't want a big gap between small people. Took 5 months for my cycle to sort itself out. First month my cervical mucus was back I fell pregnant, lost that one, had one weird short cycle which I guess was miscarriage related and then next cycle pregnant again. So far so good with that last pregnancy 🤞

My period didn't return at all whilst breastfeeding, I stopped in jab, then for 8 weeks just had random spotting, got my first period last week which was absolutely horrific, so I'm hoping now they will be more regular x

Hi I've got a 13 week old baby. I'm breastfeeding him. However my period has not come back at all. I've had no symptoms at all.
I suppose it's different from person to person... but has any one got advice on this. Isit normal?

I don't remember having this problem with y other 2 children but I suppose that was many years ago.

Took me 6 months and a lot of my breastfeeding friends it was a lot longer, more like 9 months Natures way of a contraceptive whilst you’re looking after a bf baby :)

With my first I had my period returned when he was 17 months. But that was also because I was expressing at work and he fed constantly through the night. Once I stopped expressing and night feeds plus being at away for 8+ hours my period returned and I got pregnant when he was 21 months still breastfeeding. I breastfed until I was 7 months pregnant and he stopped one morning after latching and said the milk was finished.

With my second child period returned just after first birthday. I didn't express at work.

With third period returned at 9 months but she only wakes for one feed at night.

A couple of friends have gotten pregnant whilst breastfeeding.

It’s so different for every woman.

Some women exclusively bf and periods come back within the year (like my sisters did) her periods returned after 6 months & she fell pregnant again the month after! She has 4 dcs and she fell pregnant with each one whilst bf.

My periods returned after 16 months - I am still bf our 2.5 year old dc, nap and bedtime/sometimes once in night) we started ttc for dc no. 2 once af came back, as I suspected it would take a while. Periods were irregular & I suspect a couple of months I didn’t ovulate as period was barely there, however I fell pregnant on cycle 5 which sadly had a MMC in Jan at 12 weeks.

We have started ttc again and I’ve been taking Vit B6 & C as read they can help.

That's interesting, do you know why B6 helps? The info I could find online all seemed to be about weaning.
georgarina · 26/03/2022 17:01

I tried supplementing, vitex and vit B6, and partial weaning, but mine didn't come back until completely stopping BF with both of mine. That's just how it is for some women annoyingly!
