Ovulation after the pill

Hi everyone!

After advice/experience from anyone who had come off the pill to TTC?

I have been on the pill for the last year and will be finishing them within the next week to start TTC #2 - just wondering what peoples experiences have been when stopping the pill? Have you ovulated straight away? And do you think I should use OPKs throughout my whole cycle to try and pinpoint if and when I am ovulating?

I stop my pill about a year prior to TTC baby #1 so this is new to me!

Thank you Smile

I stopped my pill and started opks (easy at home variety), ovulated in 20 days, which turned out to be my regular cycle. I’m 36, was ttc #2 and I guess my body went back to normal straight away. I’d been on the pill 2 years and got pregnant in 3 cycles. I used the opks 3 months daily up till ovulation, then twice a day once the levels really increased on the test to catch the peak reading. After ovulation till a positive test/period there was no point using them. I did them for 3 months but that’s as I had a covid vaccine month 2 so didn’t know if it threw my dates off. I think if a regular cycle presents in 2 months of ttc there’s not much point using the strips, knowing what your cycle is. Good luck!

Hi Graceybaby,

I came off the pill 6 weeks ago and was very lucky to full pregnant straight away (I am now about 4 weeks pregnant). I didn’t have a withdrawal bleed or period at all but clearly must have ovulated. I didn’t test for ovulation but judged when I was ovulating by my cervical mucus. I was planning to start tracking my cycle and using tests from after my first period though. From what I’ve read coming off the pill is really different for everyone in terms of when/if you bleed but it seems ovulation can kick in straight away (for some people at least!). Good luck with it all! Smile

Thanks ladies, sounds like you both had positive experiences!

I've finished my pill now as I normally would to have my 7 days break so expect to have a bleed as usual so I guess I will start my OPKs after that and see what happens!

:)

The first time I TTC I stopped the pill and it took 3 months for me to ovulate then I fell pregnant first time (I tracked using OPKs during that time). Second time it took 2 months for ovulation to start and I feel pregnant again straight away (again I used OPKs as soon as I came off the pill). Glad I came off in advance both times as my body takes a few months to get back to normal and ovulate.

My first pregnancy I had stopped the pill a year prior in anticipation of starting to TTC however it took 6 months to conceive my son.. hopefully things will be a little quicker this time! :)
