BFP but I’m so confused!

Hi ladies - really hope someone can help or has had similar experience…

We have been ttc for 2 years now. We had a MC in 2020 and have been trying again since then.
Did a test on 4th Feb (cd26) as this has been end of my cycle for last 6 months or so and was BFN!
Period arrived next day and lasted normal 4-5 days.
Then started spotting on 15th and 16th Feb, some mild cramps, etc. I don’t usually get any cramping around ovulation, and never any spotting mid cycle but I assumed it was ovulation related as felt it was too soon to be implantation (only cd 11/12)

But…when the cramping didn’t stop after a few days, I did a test and got BFP on cd14
Rang my doctor and he said to monitor the cramping and go to A&E if it gets severe or if I start bleeding in case it may be ectopic as it’s on one side.

Basically I’m sitting here doubting that I’m pregnant and desperately trying to stay away from the pregnancy tests as I’ll go off my head comparing lines!

Has anyone else tested positive this early in their cycle?

How strong is your test? It’s not an exact science but should be some indication.

Waitingforourrainbow · 23/02/2022 14:56

@FiftyStoriesHigh the lines are pretty strong.
I did one in the evening and one the following morning, which I see as a bit darker but I’m fully aware I have the crazy brain of a woman who has been ttc for so long!

My GP says if it’s a BFP then take it that I’m pregnant, and that if I have ovulated very early, it is possible to be pregnant.

I suppose I’m just anxious and doubting. The cramps have stopped but I still feel the odd twinge! And I’m scared every time I need to use the toilet in case I’m bleeding

Can you book in for bloods with your GP? I had a normal period (or so I thought), and I got a BFP about a week after my period finished. It was several positive OPKs that made me think to do a test. I don't know why I had a period. I was pregnant during that period, I had tested before that period and gotten BFNs. It thankfully wasn't ectopic but did end in MC. Sorry I don't want to be a bitch/ downer.

You may have ovulated super early, I would get bloods done 48hrs apart to see what your HCG levels are.

Waitingforourrainbow · 23/02/2022 15:31

@irishfarmer I’m so sorry for your loss x
I’ve been there so I know how devastating it is.

My GP is reluctant to see me so early. He basically said that I would need to wait until closer to 6 weeks and that the early pregnancy clinic would do a scan at that point given my last pregnancy ended in MC.

I was wondering if I was possibly pregnant during my last period - wasn’t sure it was possible as got a bfn before it started and period was normal

To be honest I’ve struggled with my GP practice since my MC - with covid they wouldn’t see me and it’s a nightmare to even get a phone appt! I managed to get speaking to a lovely female GP after my MC who has been so supportive but she’s not always there and is off at the minute

I might ring again and try and get someone different…

Sounds like you were probably pregnant during that period. Which would make you around 6 weeks I think, based on what you've said. So maybe worth contacting your EPU with concerns about the spotting.

irishfarmer · 23/02/2022 15:59

There is very little they can do, until 6ish weeks, even if it is ectopic they won't see anything until them. I would count your cycle day one as the 1st day of your January period, not the one you had in Feb. You more than likely were pregnant than, I know you did a test and it was negative, that's exactly what I did. So you prob are 6 weeks now.

Waitingforourrainbow · 23/02/2022 16:04

@irishfarmer @mummymummymummummum
This is what my instinct was telling me to do, but after speaking to the doctor and him ruling out that I was pregnant during period, I felt like a crazy person!!
And I fully acknowledge that ttc has turned me into a crazy person!!

Hello- following a previous ectopic I had a scan at 5 weeks purely to check where the sack was . I would push for a very early scan as ectopic can cause a problem from 5-6 weeks - if still have cramps / pain I would definitely go back / book a private scan / go to a and e if pain is bad .

irishfarmer · 23/02/2022 16:23

You are not crazy. The doctor is being an ejit. The midwife in EPU told me I was 100% pregnant through what was a completely normal period. Made no sense to me, the weeks matched up though.

mrsjhalpert · 23/02/2022 16:26

Is there not a chance that was breakthrough bleeding and not a period. And you’re actually nearly 6 weeks already? Can you pay for a private scan?

Waitingforourrainbow · 23/02/2022 16:37

@mrsjhalpert I have considered this and did discuss it with the doctor…but at the time I would have described it as a very normal period…so the doubt in my mind is how could I have been pregnant, had a normal period (which can be heavy enough for me) and still be pregnant now?

Now I’m starting to think if this has been other peoples experience, then it is possible…even if it doesn’t make sense to me!

I think it’s fear stopping me from pushing to get a scan or bloods…even though I’m anxious, I can’t face the possibility that someone might tell me I’m not actually pregnant or that I might have another MC…
Whatever is happening now nobody can do anything about as it’s so early
I’m not having the same cramps that I was last week, just the odd twinge

Sounds really stressful for you. Hope you can get answers soon.

Bundaberg84 · 23/02/2022 16:47

Can you buy a digital test with week indicator? Maybe that would help?

Littlepixie85 · 23/02/2022 16:50

I would second pushing for an early scan. I had what I thought was a normal period but didn't feel right afterwards and took a pregnancy test about 5 days after I finished my period which was positive. I went to docs as was concerned about the bleeding and they said it was just implantation bleeding, but it was heavy like a period so it didn't sit right for me. Went to a different doctor a week later who took me seriously and referred me to EPU. The scan didn't show a pregnancy despite the positive tests and it was classed as a pregnancy of unknown location and after monitoring was treated as ectopic. You know your body so if something doesn't feel right get it checked it. Hopefully it's just a date mix up and everything is fine but always worth getting checked out.

irishfarmer · 23/02/2022 16:51

I can 100% understand that. I've lost 3 babies myself and it is not easy.
No that one made no sense to me what so ever, I was so confused by having had a full on period and a BFN before that period. That was my 2nd MC so the GP sent me to EPU early enough. I think around 2 maybe 3 weeks after I had what I thought was the regular period.

Do keep an eye on cramps/ bleeds. If you can just go to EPU by yourself, give your LMP as the Jan period, and tell them you have cramps and bleeding. where I am I have to be referred by the GP.

Waitingforourrainbow · 23/02/2022 17:01

@Bundaberg84 I’m going to pick up a test with weeks indicator with my shopping later and see if that gives me any more answers/reassurance in the morning
Then I’ll get back on to my GP. I think I need referral to EPU so will suss it out tomorrow.

Ladies - thank you all so much, you’ve calmed my busy mind a little x

@Waitingforourrainbow that sounds like a good plan! Fingers crossed for you that everything will work out fine

FiftyStoriesHigh · 23/02/2022 20:34

Oh I really hope it works out!

threadslayer · 24/02/2022 09:24

Did you manage to get a test OP?

Waitingforourrainbow · 24/02/2022 11:58

I got a test and did it this morning. The result was 1-2 weeks - so as I understand, this is 1-2 weeks since conception?

So either I have ovulated and conceived super early this cycle or things are going wrong and my hcg is falling…

OP posts:
Bundaberg84 · 24/02/2022 12:01

@Waitingforourrainbow yes, it's always calculated weeks since conception. So maybe your AF was in fact implantation bleeding? That might make sense then?

Waitingforourrainbow · 24/02/2022 12:10

@Bundaberg84 I had some spotting before taking the test so maybe that was implantation??

You gotta love this ttc rollercoaster

OP posts:
Bundaberg84 · 24/02/2022 12:23

@Waitingforourrainbow I swear, my body used to be very reliable and never did weird things like it does now since TTC.

Waitingforourrainbow · 24/02/2022 12:31

@Bundaberg84 it’s so unfair!
For so many years I was terrified of getting pregnant, thinking that it could happen in the blink of an eye, and now when I want to get pregnant my body is betraying me!

OP posts:
Bundaberg84 · 24/02/2022 12:39

Me too!! That's what they always told us in school, right?
