TTC - cervical screening due in May

Hi!

We are TTC our second after a long time of waiting for 'the go ahead' from doctors for various reasons (genetic testing etc.), which we finally got just before Christmas, then I had a minor surgery in January so we said we'd start after that. Now, I'm aware my cervical screening test is due in May. I phoned the surgery to ask to have it now and they said they could only bring it forward by a month before the due date or the sample would be rejected, so April. I know that's only 3 months and realise I should probably just wait but it just feels like there is always something putting TTC on hold.

I think I could still have the screening test if I got pregnant beforehand but it can give a less reliable result. I have only had normal results in the past.

What would you do? I've just finished my period so coming up to my FW.

I'm turning 34 in May if that makes a difference 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks for reading :)

Could you pay privately?

I got my screening letter a month after my BFP 😒. It isnt recommended when pregnant. I was 34 and i have to say, it did pray on my mind a bit. They also recommend you wait until 12 weeks post partum to have the screening done, so you are basically waiting for a year. Could you try a GUM clinic rather than your GP?

Most cervical cancers are caused by the HPV virus. Your sample will be tested for HPV first and not looked at further if you are HPV negative.

You can buy self swab kits for HPV:

You could do that now and of negative wait until after your baby is born?

Thanks for replying everyone. Some good ideas here. I think I will find out if there is a clinic that I could try instead and if not will try the Superdrug test.

You can probably tell I'm a worrier 🤦🏼‍♀️
