Worried about infertility

Hi guys.

I just got married and trying for a baby, this is the first cycle that we are actively trying.

I'm 24, however when I was 18 before I met my partner I had an accidental pregnancy which I had to terminate. Did the deed once, condom broke and just got off my period at that point and sadly got pregnant 😓 It was the best choice at the time because of my age, wanting to go to uni and my culture. I was 6 weeks pregnant when I had my termination. My termination consisted of two appointments. All of them involved tablets and nothing surgical. Pain was gone the same day and had normal period type bleeding for 5 days.

I'm now worried if it has affected my fertility in any shape or form 😭😭 I've been so worried and crying over it. DH doesn't know about it, it's something quite personal to me and I don't want him to know.

Anyone else who has had a termination and still managed to conceive naturally? I want to put my mind at ease 😓. Is it common to become infertile?

Hey lovely. I didn’t want to read and run.

I’ve had a very similar experience to yours and sorry that you had to go through it. Though I’m pleased to share you should be absolutely fine and it shouldn’t interfere with your ability to start a family. I have a beautiful, healthy one year old daughter. Hope this reassures you 😊

I had a medical abortion at 5/6 weeks.

I concieved quickly and naturally a few years later when I actively tried - and im a lot older than 24Confused. A medical abortion without any complications won't affect your fertility... in the kindest way I think that is more your guilt playing at you. (there is nothing to feel guilty about making the right choice for you about when and how to have a baby).

Good luck

OP- there is no evidence that a medical termination will cause future infertility! Did you develop a massive infection afterwards, have you had multiple STIs in the past, do you have PCOS, irregular cycles or extremely over or under weight? Anaemix, thyroid issues or other medical conditions? These type of things can cause fertility issues- not a single, medical termination. What have you read to make you so anxious about this?

Unless you have a gynae/medical problem, then your GP would only investigate once you have TTC 12mths at your age.

Am I correct that you haven't told your husband about this previous pregnancy??? You should be aware though that previous pregnancies will come up with initial GP/midwifery visits etc, so you'll either need to go in alone, or lie. Best of luck Flowers

I had a surgical abortion when I was 21, at approximately 12 weeks gestation. Some years later when I was married and settled, there was no problem becoming pregnant. Plenty of mothers had abortions in the past.

Don't worry about it please, you are young, presumably healthy, and I'm sure it will happen.

I'm an over thinker and I googled too much into it 😭 I'm really worried to be honest. I've not had any STIs or other illnesses.. so hopefully baby will come soon :)
