First time BBT charting - HELP

Hi lovely ladies, hoping someone could help me.
I've started tracking my BBT this cycle as I wanted to confirm if I ovulate. I have been using the clearblue advanced OPKs for a few months now, so know roughly when to expect O day. I have used fertility friend app to log the BBT, but it hasn't pinpointed ovulation for me. I've seen some graphs that have a coverline etc, but I don't know if it's not available on the free version? I thought it would at least put a line through to show my O day.
My question is, I got my peak on the OPKs on the Friday (CD16), so assumed I would ovulate on CD17. I also had an ultrasound scan on the Friday and the lady said I haven't ovulated yet, but she could see a dominant follicle which is ready to pop, which aligned with my expected O day on CD17. However, I haven't seen a temperature shift until CD 20, does this mean I didn't ovulate until CD19? Or can the temperature shift happen a few days later?
Still trying to understand how BBT charting works and I don't have another previous chart for reference. Thanks in advance to anyone who could help xx

Hello! FF will give you crosshairs even in the free version. It only does so after you've had 3 temps higher than the previous six (with some exceptions based on additional info like ewcm and opks).

In your case it looks like you may have ovulated on CD19 so it's waiting for your third high temp tomorrow before it gives you the crosshairs.

How much later did you take your CD11 temp btw? It might be worth discarding as it could be messing with the algorithm.

@Juno231 thanks for replying. Ok I will wait for tomorrow and hope there is a further temp rise. That'll be a bit annoying as we based DTD around O being CD17 as we were unable to use CD19. But hope it's enough.
CD11 I've taken temperature an hour later than usual (was a Sunday, so slept in a little bit). Good idea, I will discard that point in case it messes with the algorithm.

@Tinkerbell098 you can also just adjust cd11 downwards by 0.1 for the time difference if you want. But I don't think it'll make a difference if it turns out CD19 was the day. And don't worry - you still hit O-2 if it was CD19 and that's like the most successful day! I got my BFP with an O-2 BD :)

@Juno231 thanks for reassuring me, and your tips. Congratulations on your BFP. How many weeks are you?

@Juno231 as you said, the cross hairs appeared after three higher temps, so I think that has confirmed ovulation. I've noticed though the temps are now on a downward trend (still higher than the cover line). Does that mean the progesterone is on its way down and I'll get AF soon?

@Tinkerbell098 how many dpo are you now? If it's a sudden drop egg today at 6dpo it's quite normal and has to do with a secondary estrogen surge. Temps should go back up tomorrow.

I'm 14 weeks now - took me 24 cycles to get my first BFP though!

Juno231 · 14/02/2022 11:41

Eg not egg!

Tinkerbell098 · 14/02/2022 11:50

@Juno231 it's more of a gradual decrease (7dpo today per FF). Temps are going down by about 0.01-0.02 each day, but still over the coverline. I'll see what it does in the next few days. It's quite interesting though and I assume it'll take a few cycles to truly understand how my cycles work.

Hope the pregnancy is going smoothly. Anything you did differently towards cycles 20-24 that helped you conceive? I'm on month 15 now, booking in for an HSG start of next cycle (I've already had scans/bloods done and OH's SA).

@Tinkerbell098 hm would you mind sharing your chart again? But in short no, it's only around this time you'd have implantation so any slight decreases in temp now would not be AF related.

Honestly I changed jobs a couple of months before so maybe it was a decrease in stress? I also happened to have cut down big time on bread and dairy as my psoriasis was flaring up so could be the decrease in inflammatory foods. Or pure luck.

Tinkerbell098 · 14/02/2022 13:46

@Juno231 here you go. I've discarded days 23 and 24 as the temps were unusually high and I had disrupted sleep on these two days so put it down to that.
I have also massively cut down on dairy (use almond milk now in my coffee and cereal, but still have cheese occasionally) since November last year. It's really hard to pinpoint what the issue is, and as you say conception can purely be due to luck as so many little things are involved. Thanks again for helping with my charts. Really appreciate it.

@Juno231 sorry for all the questions. How many days before would you expect to see the temps decrease before AF shows up?

@Tinkerbell098 it looks like a good chart to me, the temps are not too close to the cover line imo.

As for when they drop - it's not reliable tbh. Some cycles it can stay high until a few days into AF, there are charts where it drops but there's still a bfp... If it was to drop due to AF arriving though I'd expect it to do so 1-2 days before - but it tends to be a sharper drop it decline and nothing like your chart so far x

Tinkerbell098 · 14/02/2022 15:37

@Juno231 thanks for looking over it. I’ll wait and see what happens in the next few days.
