Worrying early scan

Hello!

I am 43, had a million rounds of unsuccessful IVF and somehow conceived naturally. I am meant to be 7w2d today but my dates have seemed off from the start (first pregnancy test day after missed period was negative, only turned positive 3 days after missed period, week 5 betas only 600 but doubled in 48 hours…). Went for first scan last week in a terrible place and they saw a fetal pole measuring CRL2,4mm with no HB. Went for a new scan today (6 days after the first scan) and I am measuring at 3.2mm with a heartbeat. It seems very small to me, and also if first scan was accurate showing very slow growth. What does everyone think?!

Scans this early for CRM can vary so much. A 12 week scan is between 10 and 12cm so it doesn't sound too small to me.

Congratulations!! Scans are not really accurate this early

I'm in a very similar boat, 5 failed IVF cycles, last one in November and somehow conceived naturally last month. Had an early scan on Tuesday where by dates I was 6+4 but by size measured 6+1 with a heartbeat but apparently it's slow. Could mean that it's early but could mean it's not viable and I'll miscarry. Got a rescan booked for Tuesday but until then I'm just in limbo. Half thankful that I've managed to conceive but half dreading the heartache we face now because of it.
My CRL was 5.4 mm with the slow HR. My daughters measurements were 4.6 mm at 5+9 (IVF pregnancy so sure of dates) with a normal HR so can't help but feel that it's not too early for the HR to be normal and they were just trying to be hopeful.
Have they booked you in for a rescan to check again? Best of luck ♥️

5+6 that should say!

Anxiousbuthopeful · 03/02/2022 11:20

I know how you feel @MrsC2018 but a couple of days off really isn’t much! And HB are slower is they’ve just started… which yours might have done as with natural conceptions we are not 100pc sure of our dates…

I’m going to rescan next week but looking for a good place to do it as I don’t trust anyone any more…

@Anxiousbuthopeful it's a nightmare isn't it. I've used window to the womb Manchester and the sonographer is fab. It does help that she scanned me when I'd bled with my daughter at the beginning of the first lockdown and no EPUs were offering scans. I was literally told to wait for 2 weeks and take another pregnancy test by the NHS. This sonographer literally held my hand when nobody else would even open the door to me.
Have you been to your EPU or what private places do you have near to you?

Once you've had a heartbeat you're in a good place. I'd be cautiously confident now.

I had a scan when I should have been 6+4. No fetal pole or heartbeat. Another at 8+4 and had a fetal pole and heartbeat but measuring around 7 weeks.

Nurse at EPU said they wouldn't even give me a differing EDD because measuring something so tiny is so inaccurate it's unhelpful and would likely change again. She reassured me that it's more about that fetal heartbeat and seeing progression than size.

Hope this reassures you.

Sorry you are going through this. I had a scan at 6+6 and was measuring 4.9mm (5+6) with a good strong heartbeat. Went back at 8+6 and the baby had stopped growing. I'm hoping that's not the case for you and all is well with baby. I searched and searched for cases where people had small CRL and tried to find the outcome. Just to stop myself from going mad as everyone kept telling me to relax and it was going to be ok.
Be kind to yourself. Just try and enjoy the now that would be my advice. At the moment all is well and baby is here and that's all that matters xx

I am worried this happened to me just yesterday. This is my first pregnancy and I went for a private scan yesterday evening to be told I have genstation sac / yolk sac but no fetal pole/heartbeat was detected.

According to the LMP from the doctor he calculates from the first day of my last period which is inaccurately telling me I should be 9 weeks this week.

Based on the scan the diameter of the genstation sac is 16mm they have said that means I am approx 6 weeks 4 days but I honestly feel they are a week out and I'm only 5 weeks 4 days.

They told me to take a pregnancy test in 2 weeks and if positive assume I'm still pregnant? My NHS scan is 09 March I'm honestly a blubbering mess, full of worry and no idea what to do.
