How many frozen embryos is enough?

Hi all!
I am 38yo with DOR. We did 3 rounds of mild IVF, 2 of them completely unsuccessful - didn't get any embryos. One was successful and we got 5 embryos of varied grades. After the failure of our last cycle, I am at a loss for what to do. I was hoping to add 1-2 embryos before transferring. I am worried if I go for transfers and do not succeed I will need to start from scratch. I am also worried that my AMH will drop even further, so it is better to do another retrieval now... I appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Tough question.

We suffered from male factor infertility. Have done 10 transfers (7 single and 3 double, so 13 embryos in total). From that we've had two live births and currently pregnant (tentatively!) with number 3.

Can you discuss with your consultant?

Also, if you ran out of your own embryos, would you consider donor egg?

I think for now I would like to try with my own. Did you test your embryos? Or you just banked and then started transfers? I am leaning towards trying one more retrieval...

No we didn't test our embryos, we did get to a point where it was suggested as we'd had so many failures but decided to crack on with what we had and rethink if we ran out... Luckily we didn't

@TeddyTonks wow. You are a warrior!

I had 6 embryos frozen. 1 failed the thaw. One transferred which resulted in my beautiful DS so 4 left. However I am tentatively pregnant with number 2 naturally!

OP, I would considering adding more to the bank too firstly before transfers but that's just me, I'm not a doctor... Also, I would test them before transfering.

In this cycle I didn't because I had 1, but next time I'm definately going to test, and ask to retrieve more eggs before transfer. (I'm changing a clinic)

Yes, I see... Here in the UK at least in my clinic, they didn't do routinely genetic testing, plus they didn't even discuss this with me. On day 3 when I asked they said it is your decision, so I went ahead without testing... I will try to do at least one more cycle. I am interested to hear about changing the clinic. I am not sure anything will change, as my quality of eggs and numbers seem pretty random. They changed the protocol the second time plus I took DHEA, and we got great results. Then the same protocol lead to 3 poor quality blasts that were not suitable for freezing.

Hello! I am curious as to what you ended up doing? Since I am in a similar situation. I am aiming for 12 eggs min.

Thank you, and wish you the best,
