Regular Periods and Weight Loss

Me and my partner have been trying for 9 months, with no success.

I'm 5'2 and I did weigh 199lbs. I say did because I now weight 193! Woop! My periods have always been regular, before I went on the pill and after I came off the pill. I have also never missed a period.

I am losing weight as my doctors says she can't send me for any fertility help unless my bmi is 30 or under. Its really motivated me and in 2 weeks I have lost 6lbs.

I am a big researcher. I search the internet for peoples stories, tips, everything! And I notice that people do get pregnant when losing weight. However, there are the odd comments that say "it doesn't matter if you lose weight if you were ovulating anyway, it won't make a difference". I know I am ovulating as I've had 21 day bloods to show that I am.

I was wondering if there are any stories from anybody out there that had regular periods, knew they were ovulating but didn't get pregnant until they lost weight?

Bumping for you :)
My situation is different as I'm 5ft 2in and 71kg and since gaining weight It seems to have changed my luteal phase so I'm bleeding (spotting) up to 7 days before my period starts - this means low progesterone possibly, means an egg can't implant etc :(
My BMI is 29 . something. I'm having bloods on the 16th to see if they can say what's going on; but I do think I need to lose weight and I do think it can affect conceiving for SOME people.

I do have 2 DC already who were conceived first try, when my periods weren't like this and I was about 11 kilos lighter!

Thank for your reply and bumping @PinkEll. I am trying to get down to 76kg which is brilliant for me. However, I suppose it depends on what your body is used to isn't it. It will be really interesting to see if you conceive after weight loss. I am having some bloods tomorrow to find out more info. Good luck on 16th! 🥰

@jadez16 I'm so sorry, when I wrote that reply I was rushing and I forgot to say to you well done on your weight loss so far!

It's great that you're ovulating. Has your partner had any tests done?

What blood tests are you having tomorrow? I hope they give you some answers.

I'm either blaming the Covid vaccine which I had in August (when this started) or my weight. Not sure which one it is!
I came off the pill in May and had two normal cycles before the spotting started.

BritInNZ · 01/02/2022 05:55

@PinkEll just wanted to say I'm also spotting for 4-5 days before AF since my COVID vaccine in October. It's so crap - starts just six days after ovulation!

jadez16 · 01/02/2022 06:38

@PinkEll thank you! 😊

I'm having my normal LH, FSH, prolactin and testosterone checked today. My partner hasn't been checked yet, no. But he's going to go.

That's so weird about the vaccine! I haven't had any vaccines as I didn't know how it would affect me getting pregnant, it's hard enough as it is without a vaccine making it worse lol. I hope that's not the case for you though. I hope everything's OK 🥰

@BritInNZ It really sucks doesn't it?! I'm glad I'm not alone in this annoying spotting situation! Are you TTC?

@jadez16 I hope you get the results quickly, let us know what they say. And fingers crossed for a positive pregnancy test soon! X

BritInNZ · 01/02/2022 07:06

@PinkEll yep been TTC for a year and now diagnosed with unexplained infertility unfortunately!

PinkEll · 01/02/2022 07:11

@BritInNZ Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. Did they diagnose this before October?

Verbena87 · 01/02/2022 07:16

I have a friend who struggled, lost weight and got much fitter and then conceived and carried her baby to term. No telling whether it’s coincidence really, but it’s definitely worth a go especially as your health will benefit all round even if it doesn’t directly affect conception.

jadez16 · 01/02/2022 07:22

@Verbena87 that gives me so much hope, thank you! 😊

@BritInNZ thank you, I will keep you posted. Xxx

@PinkEll keep us updated on your tests? I'm praying you get your BFP soon. Xxxx

@BritInNZ sorry, I forgot to say, is there anything else you can do/try?
I'm so sorry you have been diagnosed with that. That must be heartbreaking! Sending hugs xxx

@jadez16 nope nothing else except keep trying and if no luck, go down IUI route and then IVF
