Hi guys!

So I’ve recently had the copper coil fitted on the 10th of January as emergency contraception following unprotected sex. After having the coil fitted I lightly bled then this went on to slightly more heavier bleeding with a lot of horrible cramps. I bled from the 13th to the 23rd, going from light bleeding to heavy bleeding then stopping.

My period was due on the 24th and nothing. 2 negative pregnancy tests. I’m wondering if the bleeding I experienced following the copper coil being fitted wasn’t just bleeding from the procedure and perhaps an early period? My periods are normally clockwork, every 28 days so for it not to show on the 24th was a worry!

I’ve read that the copper coil shouldn’t effect your periods and I shouldn’t have missed a period so therefore I am a little worried as I obviously had unprotected sex prior to having the coil fitted.

Does anyone have any advice please? Thank you so much in advance Smile

@littlemac2
I doubt you would get a period after bleeding for ten days surly the lining would be gone if you bleed for that long. I would say an early period tbh. Or maybe having coil fitted made you bleed on the 13 them your period kicked in say the 19th.

Hey Babyghirl

Thank you so much for your reply. It’s nice to read something so reassuring! Yeah I definitely bled for that amount of time and the bleeding was heavier from the 19th to the 23rd with period type cramps. I was just confused as to if this was just bleeding from the coil and not actually a period. I took a pregnancy test today and negative. It was a clear blue so surely they are reliable especially at 3 weeks since having unprotected sex. I guess I’m just a worrier and talking myself into all sorts of situations.

I’m going to take another test on Monday as I have one lying in the cupboard just to be sure! I’m just being silly I bet though. I think I feel more worried as I’m cramping just now, feeling nauseous and have a fever but I think my bodies just been through a lot over the last few weeks with taking emergency contraceptive and having the copper coil fitted!

Thanks again, so lovely of you to reply!
