Letrozole and Estrogen together

Hi,

I’m about to begin my 4th cycle of Letrozole (after almost 2 years TTC - “unexplained infertility”).

This cycle I would like to try adding an Estrogen supplement to cycle days 8-12, after finishing Letrozole, to try to thicken my lining. I’ve historically had very light periods and suspect my lining may be thin.

Does anyone have any experience with their doctors prescribing this combo?

Thank you!!
Michelle

Hi @MichelleL87 - no experience but just wondering how light is light? I'm nearly a year into TTC and I have 3 day periods but don't really need to wear a cup or anything on day 3. So far all my blood results have been text book but I've not had my lining checking yet. Have you had yours checked as your are a bit further down the line than me? X

I did a letrozole cycle last year and at my first scan on cd9 my lining was still 4mm and my follicles were still small. So I took progynova until cd24. My next scan on cd13 I had 3 follicles of 16mm and my lining was over 8mm. It didn't work but if have had to stay on the estrogen if it had.
Good luck.

I haven’t had my lining checked before, so it’s still only a suspicion. But I typically have about a day and a half of enough flow that I need a tampon, then just spotting for another day. My OB hasn’t been overly concerned about it but everything else (bloodwork, HSG, semen analysis) appears normal. Waiting on a consult with a fertility clinic (a year wait where I am!) so I’m willing to try anything I can until then!

@VenusStarr Did you need a trigger shot to ovulate after CD24 of Progynova or did you ovulate on your own once you stopped taking it? And do you remember the dose you took?

@FlyOnTheWall89 - I replied to you above but didn't tag you! Sorry - I'm new to this forum :)

Sorry @MichelleL87 I should've said. I triggered on cd16. I was on 7.5mg and got 3 follicles. I took 3 progynova a day x

VenusStarr · 21/01/2022 17:43

I have relatively short periods @MichelleL87 I had a scan on cd9 one cycle and my lining was over 9mm. I've also done ivf and got a triple layer lining, so I wouldn't worry too much xx

@VenusStarr Thanks for the quick reply! My OB called in a prescription for 30 days of Estradiol Hemihydrate for me (similar to Progynova) but I haven't actually had a chance to run my "plan" by her to take it only for 5 days after I finish Letrozole because she's hard to get an appointment with. So I don't have a trigger but I've done 3 other Letrozole cycles with no monitoring/triggering and always ovulate on CD15 like clockwork. I figure 5 days of Estrogen can't hurt while I wait for an IVF consult ;) Thanks again!!

Hi there I’m in a similar boat now and wondered if you had any feedback on taking both Letrozole and progynova (eostrogen). I finished Letrozole and have been prescribed 3 weeks of progynova. I’m not sure what affect this will have on me ovulating on time or when I can expect my period. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

MichelleL87 · 03/10/2022 15:10

@Jasmine89H I only tried taking Estrogen after I finished Letrozole for one cycle (and only 5 days of Estrogen) and from what I remember, I ovulated on time but my period was about a week and a half late, so it did something weird to my cycle. Do you know what the purpose of three weeks of Estrogen supplementation is? To thicken your lining?

Hi thanks for your reply. I had an op to remove some scarring in my womb and was prescribed eostrogen for 3 weeks to thicken my lining. I haven’t previously had any lining issues. I’m due to ovulate on Wednesday but I’m not sure if I will now.
