Home insemination help!

Hi all!

I'll try and keep this brief.
My partner and I have been trying to conceive for almost 3 years now with no joy.
I've had private scans done and it shows I have PCOS on my left ovaries.

I had an operation in December which has rendered me for the next 3 months as unable to have sex (I won't go into details, but it'd be awkward!) and my partner and I don't want to miss out on 3 months of trying.

I ordered sterile needless syringes from Amazon, and yesterday we tried for the first time home insemination!
Getting it into the cup and syringe was easy, however, when I placed it inside and released the plunger thing, it just went everywhere!
No matter how slow I did it, if I angled it differently, it was just coming out of me 😕

Sorry for TMI, but has anyone had any luck with this? What am I doing wrong?!

Hello! I'm currently TTC using this method. I definitely found that I had to plunge SUPER slowly to not get it to go everywhere. I also put the syringe as far as it would go, and (after a v messy first attempt) made sure there were no air bubbles in the syringe - I think it can be air bubbles that make it go everywhere! I also tipped my hips up quite high, and after I'd inserted the sperm I put a cervical cap in (I used the Ferti Lily but you can use a menstrual cup or disc too). I hope that helps! I have no idea if I've been successful as it's my first month using this method but I def felt like on attempts two and three I got most of it in there!

@lakejupiter thank you! I wondered if it was just me that was making a mistake or something!
I didn't do the hip tilt thing so I'll try that next time and hopefully it won't be as bad.
It's so hard to not get air bubbles in the syringe 🙈

The things we do hey! X

Defs try the hip tilt thing - I found it helped as at least gravity is on your side! I put a big cushion and a pillow under my hips so that my pelvis was above my head and it was harder for it all to just slide back out! I didn't manage to get rid of all the air bubbles but the fewer the better I think. It is a bubbly substance though 🙈

Hello op
My son was conceived this way and he's burbling away in his rocker !
Any questions fire away!

bethandgus · 18/01/2022 15:47

@lakejupiter I will definitely try it, it's a lot less pressure on the two of us each month too so it's good timing for a little break! X

@Limegreentangerine ahh that's so lovely, congratulations!

So, did you use any "pre-seed" or supplements of any kind? I've heard of some people mixing the pre seed in with it and then inserting, but seems a bit odd to be mixing things!

Besides the hip tilt and cup, any other tips for getting it to stay in?! Haha x

Hiya, good luck OP🤞

I always wondered what day do you self inseminate in relation to ovulation to maximise the chance of conception? @Limegreentangerine

Limegreentangerine · 18/01/2022 15:59

@bethandgus
THANKYOU he's a sweetie .. when he's asleep haha! No preseed i used it once and it just went everywhere TMI , I did use some ovulation support supplements though these are made by conceive plus I got them on Amazon!

@Mummytobe93
I used ovulation strips and an ap and did it the day before , day of ovulation and the day after that :)

Hope this helps guys!

bethandgus · 18/01/2022 16:20

@Limegreentangerine do you think I could over do it?
I'm getting faint lines on ovulation strips but haven't reached my peak yet, we're doing it every other day until my peak then everyday for a few days.
My other half said he needs time to recharge 😂

@bethandgus I think you are doing it a good amount! Remember it only takes 1!

Also have an orgasm afters ! It pulls the sperm upwards to where it needs to go!

seven201 · 18/01/2022 20:47

In my experience sometimes it goes everywhere, sometimes it just stays in. I don't do anything differently. Definitely doing the plunger really slowly, pillow under bum, try and orgasm after. We go every other day. I'm currently pregnant (very early days) from the cup and plunger method as I had covid when ovulating last month. Generally I love it as after 4 years of ttc I've had enough of ttc sex and so has my dh!

poppet131 · 19/01/2022 08:23

@seven201 Congratulations!! Did you do just the syringe and pot method last month when you got your bfp or mix you mix it up with BD as well? Can I ask also which size syringe you used?

seven201 · 19/01/2022 17:48

Thank you, although my pregnancy tests are getting lighter so I think it's not good news for me.

Just used the cup and syringe last month due to covid, usually do a mix of both. I should add I've recently had surgery on my uterus so it's not the cup & syringe that has fixed my infertility, but it certainly hasn't been ineffective! I think it's a 10ml syringe - I bought the home insemination kit from Amazon, but it's cheaper buying them separately.

Hiya could I pm you?

seven201 · 20/11/2022 20:10

Hi everyone. Does anyone have any tips for how long you should wait before inserting the sperm (fresh not frozen)? I think I read it's meant to be between 10-20mins after ejaculation for it be optimum?

Hw82 · 13/11/2024 13:02

@Limegreentangerine hi I kno this thread was 2yr ago , but just looking for some advice.

me and my partner are trying home insemination using two plus fertility, I have just one question if you could give me some advice- we’re ok inseminating but it’s after , it just keeps coming back out. Is there anything I could do to help prevent this??

thankyou.
