Suddenly pregnant - a silver lining for my grieving parents

Very sadly my younger brother suddenly and unexpectedly died around this time last year. Almost to the day of the first anniversary my dh and I have found out that we are expecting our first child (I'm 37). When we received confirmation - on Christmas Eve eve - dh said, almost instantly, "now we have a really special gift to give your parents" (they didn't want any, too sad as they were to 'celebrate').

I am so very very excited for us and for them. I feel like I am staring in what feels like a modern day Christmas miracle. Of course my parents are still sad, but there is happiness now that I have never before seen in either of them.

This is one of the most special moments of my life.

Very sad to hear about your brother B but huge huge congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope your baby brings you much happiness and joy (and sleepless nights and stinky nappies but that's all par for the course! )

munchkinmum · 26/12/2007 20:33

So happy for you and your family.

You are right, a miracle!

Wishing you a healthy pregnancy and a ver happy 2008!

Bea0001 · 26/12/2007 20:36

P.S. I meant to say: I am sharing all this with the group as a way of sharing my joy: I don't want to tell other immediate family and friends until we are through the next couple of volitile weeks (we had a v. early miscarriage in Nov), so thanks for being part of this!

I really wanted to post this last time but couldn't think how to word it. I'm still not sure but with your Mum joining in here, I would like to say how lovely it could be to use your brothers name somewhere with your new baby.

debinaustria · 27/12/2007 16:09

Bea - I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes - what a fantastic Christmas present, I wish you an easy and trouble free pregnancy, and give our best wishes to your parents.

mibbes · 27/12/2007 16:18

what a fabulous and uplifting story - makes me feel so grateful for what I have. Even though no BFP yet I have so many other blessings to count - thank you for sharing and all the best with your pregnancy. From my family's experience I know that a baby can be a Godsend at times of sadness

blanki · 27/12/2007 16:28

Sorry for your loss. Wishing you all (esp you) health and happiness for the new year!

Bea0001 · 27/12/2007 22:22

NAB3, and deb, mibbes and blanki, now it is I who struggle to find the words: your, and everyone else's thoughts here, are just SO touching; their sincerity and their realness - even though we've only just 'met' - adds to the sense of connection to, as I said before, great women.

I feel so, well, blessed! And even as I type this I can feel my brother looking on, smiling.
