Hi ladies, ttc #2, going to see IVF clinic in 3 weeks time and counting like mad... I started up a thread called v v sore boobs and af is 8 days away (or something like that), well can someone out there please explain something, I think I had just had AF, last week, but the AF was totally outa character for me, I usually spot CD1, then full blown AF on CD 2 right up until CD5, then it calms down again, but on no, this time I had spotting v dark brown looky like water on days 1 & 2, then this awful stuff v dark brown, almost tar like stuff on day 3 and then back to watery stains of dark brown on days 4 & 5, then it was over. I'm sure that it was AF, but why the sudden appearance change!!!
I'm not normal anyway as I had PCOS, but this is just the icing on the cake for me.

Hi Malinki, sorry, don't know the effects of pcos or clomid on bleeding, but if I were you I would do another pregnancy test. Any chance of seeing your GP? Not sure you should wait 3 weeks before seeing anyone. I don't want to worry you, and I'm not saying that it is what's happening, but I know that watery brown loss can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy.
Like I said, it may not be that, lots of women bleed in early pg (I did with both my DSs) and everything is fine. On the other hand if you're not pg, something is not right, and if you can I would get it checked out.
Sorry, don't want to be scare mongering, but I'd feel awful if something happened, and I hadn't said anything. Hope you're OK, nic x.

Malinki,I really don't want to scare you,but I had brown watery bleeding with my ectopic. It is described clinically as 'prune juice' bleeding & that is exactly what mine resembled.

Have you done a pregnancy test? Whatever the results,I echo what nicmum2 boys says & see a Dr asap-ectopics can be fatal if not spotted in time.I was very lucky & mine was found at 6wks (I was about to start IVF too),& was removed without any tubal damage.

I'm hoping that it isn't an ectopic, but PLEASE get it checked out.Your Dr should take a blood test to check for HcG which will indicate a pregnancy, then take another one in 48 hours to see if the level has doubled if indeed you are pregnant.

Good luck & let us know.

Malinki are you ok?

malinki · 18/11/2004 17:25

I'm ok, just never thought of that, I saw GP tonight, and she did a urine pg test there and then, I was praying like mad that the result would be +, but it came up negative, I am going to test again at the weekend. My GP seems to think that the brown blood is of no concern she says it is a prostogen bleed, too much prostogen in my blood. (I'd rather hope she is right)

Praying for you. All the best.

I was once told that brown bleeding meant an infection......

Mirage · 18/11/2004 18:12

I'm glad that you are all right.I'm sorry if I frightened you-I just couldn't have lived with myself if something had happened & you hadn't been checked out.

Hi Malinki,

PCOS is a real PITA to deal with and that's an understatement.

Are you under the care of a gynae currently?. If so I would speak to them about what is currently happening with you as well as your GP as they have more specialist knowledge.

You are due to see the IVF clinic in three weeks; is there any chance you can be seen by them before then?. They need to be aware of what is currently happening to you re this bleeding and spotting (BTW spotting especially if it keeps happening should be investigated further to ascertain the exact cause). Brown blood is "old" blood.

HTH and good luck

Did your GP not take a swab just to make sure it's not an infection? My DD had discharge exactly as you described and she had an infection.

nicmum2boys · 18/11/2004 22:17

Glad you are OK and have seen the GP. As Mirage says, sorry if I scared you, just would never have forgiven myself for not saying anything, and a problem going unnoticed. Is the doctor going to take any more action/tests, or is it a case of wait and see?
