Hi everyone, would love to hear some experiences and opinions. I have read somewhere antidepressants could cause sperm damage and links to birth defects or autism. I have read other studies suggesting no risk and that fathers exposure doesnt make much difference. We are planning for a baby. How was your experience if husband was on antidepressant and you conceived?

It depends on the type of antidepressant, I conceived on sertraline which is completely safe for pregnancy. I think your best bet is checking with a pharmacist, that'll put your mind at rest Smile

I think that the issue is that there isn’t much in the way of PV reporting around this.
You would need to find a publication with a long term study on the effects on antidepressants taken during conception (and pregnancy) and then look at the outcomes in children many years later.
Alternatively have a look at information on the amount of antidepressant that is present in semen - possibly from the animal studies. It could well put your mind at rest.
