I am 3dpo after following SMEP for our first cycle of ttc#3 (after a 12 year gap!). Has anyone tried it? How did you find it? Did it work? It’s pretty exhausting! It took 11 months to conceive our 12 year old so we are trying everything we can this time as we don’t have age on our side (me 35 and dh 43)

Worked first month for us, which ended up being a chemical pregnancy and then it worked again 3 months later which sadly ended in a missed miscarriage. Just got my period back after the miscarriage and will be doing SMEP again this month, yes it is pretty exhausting but it does work!

Sorry to hear of your difficult journey. Good luck for this month. At least we are in the 2ww now so can rest a little lol.

@Dreamingof3

Starting on the 8th day of your menstrual cycle, you have intercourse every other day. The duration of SMEP is on average proportional to the lifespan of the sperm.

On the 10th day of your menstrual cycle, you start using an ovulation prediction kit (OPK) daily until you get a positive result. A note about OPK tests, unless the test you’re using states otherwise, it’s actually better not to test with first-morning urine. This is because the LH surge (hormonal surge that happens prior to ovulation, this is the surge the OPK test is reading) begins in the early morning and may not be apparent early in the morning. Since the surge builds as the day goes on, late morning or early afternoon is the best time to test.

You have intercourse on the day you get a positive result from your OPK kit and for the next two days in a row. You skip the fourth day and have intercourse again on the fifth day.

If you haven’t gotten your period 15 days after your positive OPK, it’s time for a pregnancy test.

@gluenotsoup that’s great. How many cycles did it take?

Used it consistently when ttc my dd, was pregnant before her too. Both pregnancies took 8 months to conceive so I can't say it was particularly successful for me, probably just my time!!
