Regular periods, irregular ovulation

Hoping someone who's had similar experience can advise here

I came off the pill in May last year and periods returned straightaway. We have been TTC since then. I didn't track ovulation to start with because I thought we'd just get pregnant (like everyone around me seems to be atm!) but started tracking in September when nothing had happened. My periods are pretty regular, between 28 and 32 day cycle every month but my ovulation is not so reliable. I'm using clear blue ovulation tests and in November got a high reading for a few days but a week later than expected then my peak but af showed up 3 days later. Last month peak ovulation was when I expected it (cycle day 16) but this month I'm cycle day 17 and not even getting flashing smilies on my ovulation tests.

TTC is starting to stress DH out plus his work means he's away for a week every 6 weeks which makes things more complicated.

Can I be having real periods if ovulation isn't happening when it should or are the tests wrong? I want to go to my doctor but I know where I live it's really hard to get an appointment especially if we've not been trying for a full year.

Hey OP

I have quite regular cycles. They do vary abit by days like yours but still considered regular and usually 28-32 days or around that.

I haven’t been tracking ovulation for long but my peak days do vary. I’ve had a peak at CD20 and then following cycle my peak was CD13 for example.

I think it is possible to have a period and not ovulate it’s called anovulation cycle I believe.

However some women find that they have very short LH surges so for example they may get a negative OPK in the morning, Positive in the afternoon, back to negative the following morning.

Do you test only once a day? Maybe you have just missed your peak as it could have happened earlier or later in the day or maybe your peak is just coming later like mine did at CD20.

I use the CB tests too but this cycle I got some of the cheapie line ones off Amazon so I can test more times during the day and if the line looks positive I can confirm it with another CB. I’m testing from the day I finish my period until the day I get my peak Am and Pm. I know that might be too much testing for some people but could be worth a try.

Sending you lots of luck Smile

I test once a day normally but have done two today, usually I get the high fertility symbol for a few days before peak though. I've never had it that I've got peak with just negative before it.

I did wonder about pcos but I don't have the usual symptoms. Only other thing which I thought it might be would be my weight, I have a BMI of 18.5 which I know is the lower end of healthy. Going to try and put on weight and see if things change but I've never managed to put weight on before (just genetics, my dad and brother are the same).

Would it be worth my time getting cheap tests? Just think it might be worth it so I can see progression better.

Could be worth it. I got a box of 50 ovulation strips and 20 pregnancy tests (they came together) off Amazon for about £15 and I do have the CB ones as well so using both Smile
