First baby was an accident but he is now 2 and we want another. Do you literally just have sex regularly or should you start with tracking ovulation etc? We have only used condoms (reliably until the 2 year old!) and my periods are spot on every month, every 28 days.

Thanks in advance!

Hello! Everyone is different, some people prefer to just have sex regularly and see what happens, others track ovulation so they know when they are fertile and can time sex around then. As a general rule you will ovulate around halfway through your cycle, though of course everyone is different.

Hello,

I’ve just started cycle 2 of ttc baby #1.

In the cycle before I started ttc and in the first cycle ttc I used ovulation tests to track ovulation and I ovulated around CD20 the first month and around CD14 in the second month.

Unfortunately didn’t conceive in cycle 1 of trying so now onto cycle 2.

I’m going to track ovulation again using ovulation tests and also start taking my temp to confirm the ovulation day.

I would say if you cbb it’s good to track ovulation because as you can see I ovulated at different times of the month the last 2 months but as you’re only just starting ttc you may want to take a more relaxed approach and just dtd regularly and see what happens.

I’m in my 30’s now and so I decided to track things to hopefully give me the best chance of conceiving as soon as possible but it doesn’t always work out that way.

Lots of luck Smile

I fell on our first try and I was tracking ovulation with Clearblue ovulation tests - no idea if we'd have been so lucky or not if we hadn't used them!

A mixture of both. When I was mid-cycle we would make sure we were having sex, but then that's when I was most into it! However didn't want it to become only about baby making so as and when too. Took 3 months both times.

Temping and ovulation tests. Sex every day. Been pregnant twice and took 8 cycles to conceive both times. Ttc #2 now and on cycle 4.

Tracking is useful, especially if you're having trouble or need perfect timing to conceive. But if you're happy to just ttc with no stress, tracking or organisation for a while, go for it!

A normally fertile couple with no constraints on time don't need to medicalise the procedure. Regular sex (every 2-3 days) through your cycle should result in pregnancy within 12 months. If you have fertility issues or can only have sex once or twice, timing it might be worthwhile but otherwise, it's just money and turning a fun experience into a science experiment.

To start with I wldnt track anything unless u are desperate to get pregnant quickly. I suppose it depends how regular and reliable ur periods are u cld dtd around ovulation. Mine weren't reliable at all especially when we were ttc first time. My cycles were anything from 28-50 odd days.

So second time around we tried to dtd every second day. Got pregnant very quickly second time.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 04/01/2022 18:17

To be honest if you have regular periods and conceived before, Id just have sex a lot between cycle days 7 and 17 ish

hellosunshineagainx · 04/01/2022 23:28

Thanks for all your replies! Think we are just going to have a lot of sex a week after my period ends up until a week before I am due and go from there (I have a 28 day cycle)

@hellosunshineagainx that sounds a good plan, think I'll do that myself if I'm not successful this cycle as I'm getting too obsessed with everything!
