Hi everyone,

Happy New Year to all! My partner and I are hoping to start ttc in March! I was wondering if anyone has had any pre pregnancy health tests, specifically blood tests? Is this something GPs in the UK offer? The reason I ask is about 3 years ago, my thyroid tests were slightly out of the reference range. My gp said we would keep an eye on them and now they have naturally gone within the reference range, but are still high. I've heard this can impact ability to conceive. Any thoughts? Thanks!

GPs in the UK will not offer any testing unless 1) your cycles do not settle after a few months off contraceptives or 2) you do not conceive for a long time (over 6mo if you are aged over 35yrs, over 12mo if you are under 35yrs)

Hi @Bobduncan your gp probably won't offer any tests unless you have no luck after a year, however if you've had thyroid problems before then they should offer you a blood test for that. I have an over active thyroid and I just ask my gp for a repeat blood test every 3 months or so to check it's ok x
