Trying again after missed miscarriage early

So I had a missed miscarriage and had to have the baby surgically removed a week ago. I’m not meant to be having sex but for the past few days I have been without protection. Anybody else done this and fell pregnant straight away

Personally I'd wait a cycle at least. I had a D&C after my first MMC (took 8 cycles to conceive again) and just recently had one in November. The studies I've read suggest if the fetus was removed surgically the uterine lining may need time to grow back to its full thickness to properly support another baby. I think naturally you can try again right away as you've had a proper bleed. But really it's down to you how comfortable you feel with it.

Lacedwithgrace · 04/01/2022 02:33

If you've been advised to avoid sex, particularly unprotected you really should follow it. Your body needs to recover, just to make sure it's ready. If you do get pregnant now your body won't be prepared

Rosepot · 04/01/2022 07:02

Hi Chels, I'm really sorry for your loss. I had an MVA in December for missed miscarriage at 11 weeks. I've just had my period. I felt a desire to try again very soon after. I think it's good to wait 1 cycle. I feel like this period is clearing out anything leftover from the miscarriage. I've also been charting bbt and my bbt has been all over the place suggesting that my hormones are still regulating. If you are having unprotected sex make sure you're not bleeding to avoid infection as an infection would really scupper your plans to conceive. Also, make sure any pregnancy tests are negative so if you do test for pregnancy you know it is a new pregnancy and not traces of hcg from your previous pregnancy. Statistically we are very likely to have a health pregnancy next time around.

Agree with this absolutely- you could be doing more harm than good at this point

whosaidtha · 04/01/2022 08:02

I didn't get a negative test for quite a few weeks after my miscarriage. I don't think you can ovulate when you still have hcg in your system. I'd follow the medical advice even though I I know it's hard.

@Chels2000 sorry for your loss.

I had a mmc in 2019 also and surgical management.

You absolutely must not have unprotected sex until after a few weeks or you could cause an infection. It took me 3 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test and stop bleeding.

I understand the desperation to be pregnant; the feeling is so overwhelming. However, you must consider your own health, both physically and mentally.

Like @Rtmhwales it took me 8 cycles to conceive again. I don't mean to say this to be hurtful but you may read a lot of information (which is only anecdotal) that you're more fertile after a mmc but there is no scientific evidence to prove this. It's so easy to hold onto this and break more after 3 months if it hasn't happened. I hope for you it does but please give yourself time to grieve your loss and find acceptance.

I have very little to no bleeding at all but I done an ovulation test and it was definitely positive I haven’t been letting him actually go in me but he wore a condom once and it tore so in the end we just haven’t used nothing

I think the positive lh test left over from your mmc. You need to give your body time to heal and having unprotected sex before advised to can cause infection from your cervix still being partially opened. You need to wait and rest. I understand the urgency to be pregnancy again, I myself have had 2 losses but you could be doing yourself more harm than good

Chanel05 · 04/01/2022 12:08

@Chels2000 I'd say that the positive ovulation test is leftover pregnancy hormone. It takes a few weeks to go negative on pregnancy tests and ovulation tests. If you take a pregnancy test, as painful as this will be, you'll see that it's positive. Hcg hormone makes ovulation tests positive too.

I'm afraid that surgical management can make our bodies take time to get back to normal. I tracked my cycle on the first month after my mmc. I had a positive opk on cd31 - 31 days after surgical management - and then my period came just 10 days later. My cycle was all over the show until I conceived again.

Rosepot · 04/01/2022 12:54

Hi chela. I had positive ovulation tests for too many days and I'd no idea when I'd ovulated until I got my period. I was reading up about my bbt as well. It stayed high until day 3 of my period and from reading on fertility acupuncture articles this can mean stagnated blood which could be blood left over from miscarriage. I think it's best to make sure that is all cleared to maximise chances of a healthy subsequent pregnancy.

Regarding positive pregnancy tests. I'm still getting (very faint) positive tests and I may well have ovulated last cycle. If they have been low for a long time (in the case of missed miscarriage) you may still ovulate before they return to zero.

chasingtherainbow1 · 04/01/2022 13:25

Sorry to hear of your loss. Ovulation tests can detect pregnancy hormones, I think that could be why yours are positive. Have you done a pregnancy test to see if you hcg has returned to zero after the missed miscarriage? I just kept taking cheap tests u til I knew it had cleared.

Also, I second what the others are saying, be careful with unprotected sex because there's a big risk of infection. Bleeding must have completely stopped, not even spotting before having unprotected sex. Chances are you will be fine but it's best to make sure you don't get an infection

frenchie4002 · 04/01/2022 20:57

Sorry for your loss x
I also had a MMC and ERPC in October. It took 5 weeks for me to finally get a negative pregnancy test so I'd agree with the other comments and say it will most probably be leftover hormones that are showing on that test. I was told at the hospital the earliest you may ovulate is 2 weeks post procedure but that is different for everyone and my body still isn't really back to normal but I know some women fall pregnant very quickly after so good luck.

SWCharlie · 04/01/2022 23:42

I had a missed miscarriage and had a D&C and fell pregnant with the very next egg. No period in between. I wasn’t trying particularly but it just happened. It was a normal pregnancy and my son is now a teenager. Just so that you know it is possible. I wish you the very best!

Chels2000 · 06/01/2022 13:55

SWCharlie
I done a pregnancy test today in the morning and an ovulation test too. It looks like the hcg has pretty much gone now and don’t look as if I’m ovulating but I did an ovulation test the other day and that one looked positive but I’m not sure if it was positive or the hcg was making it that way

@chels2000 I'd do another test in 2 days same brand to see if theres any line progression💖

TheDaydreamBelievers · 20/01/2022 08:23

The clear blue is more sensitive than the stick ones so probably picking up leftover HCG. Wait 2 days and test again - if it's gotten weaker then no you are not pregnant again, if stronger then yes
