I made a boo boo this month and forgot to start taking it on day 1- started on day 8 dont think it has worked- am 4DPO and feeling negative.

So am planning next month. Have 500mg pure herb capsules and AM going to take them from day 1- should I take 2? should I only take them up to O?? or carry on taking it but take less? will it work even though I have a regular cycle? basically i need people who have tried it and its worked to compare notes!! And does anyone want to join me? Am also using OPK's which are positive on day 14 and 15 and have a 28-30 day cycle.

No please do not self medicate with this herb as it can sometimes cause more problems than its worth. Its of more use for people who have irregular cycles and even then it should be used with a degree of caution (i.e no self medicating).

You may not be 4dpo either, ovulation does not always occur around two weeks before the start of your next period. Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. OPK's can also be misleading as they can give multiple positive results.

How long have you been ttc?. If its now almost a year it may be worth visiting your GP for further advice.

Had my coil out a year ago, had a few months trying to conceive then a few months break due to my wedding coming up. Been at it for another 5 cycles now. Have all the symptoms of O at around CD15 too. What are the problems AC can cause?

OP posts:

AC can make symptoms of any underlying hormone imbalance worse. If periods are regular in nature I would not be taking AC.

Symptoms of ovulation can be misleading. The best way to see whether or not ovulation is happening or not is to have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like.

I'm thinking of going and having a day 3 and day 21 done in the new year, just to put my mind at rest that the signs I've been getting are right. Have had a quick look at some research on the internet and it sounds as if AC is mostly used for PCOS- well my periods are dead regular so I dont think it will help me. The only weird thing thats happened with my periods is that have recently had two 31 day cycles whereas they always used to be 26 days dead on- but have just got married so am assuming its stress. I do suffer from terrible PMT so was going to take the AC for fertility but if it worked on PMTthen that would be a bonus- do you know anything about that or do you think its best to leave well alone?

Don't take AC when pg!

mummy2olivia · 23/12/2007 13:11

what does it do when pregnant?

OP posts:
NAB3hundredbaubles · 23/12/2007 14:28

Mmm, have answered this but seems to have disappeared.

I don't know what it does but I was told by my pharmacist not to take it when pg.

worzsel · 23/12/2007 16:25

It worked for me first month and i noticed a difference immediatly even without the amazing bfp ( 6 weeks today !) .

i took 4 a day, 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening untill the day after my peak.

i took evening primrose oil untill ov too and vit b6 and folic acid all the way through my cycle aswell.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/12/2007 17:26

I'd try Evening Primrose oil for PMT symptoms.

I would not worry unduly about two 31 day cycles but if they continue to alter like this over the next few months I would look into having blood tests done.

mummy2olivia · 23/12/2007 20:07

I'm sure its a bit of stress that has altered it then its just stayed like that. Not too concerned as it has made my LP 16 days!!

Hi M2Olivia. I'm with Atila on this one. I had moderately regular cycles and took AC thinking it would give me a bit of a boost. It seems to have completely screwed things up - didn't ov for at least a couple of months and things still not right. Steer clear of it unless things are really bad, in which case I could see someone taking it from a 'nothing to lose' standpoint.

mummy2olivia · 23/12/2007 21:28

Thanks Milly- Think I am going to leave it for now. I think I am just getting impatient and willing to try anything TBH!!

It's only been 5 months PROPERLY but a whole year of wanting another baby and I'm finding it very very hard to relax about it. Starting to think it won't happen!!

worszel was your cycle irregular??

OP posts:
worzsel · 24/12/2007 14:43

Only by 4 or 5 days, they varied between 24 and 28 days normally.

I didnt take it to regulate my cycles but to boost my production of progesterone as i was having anovlatory cycles and even when i did ovulate i was spotting for up to a week before AF.

I only had to take it for a month, it may of course been a complete fluke that i got pregnant on that cycle but we've been trying for a while so i'm inclined to believe it made a difference.

Hi

I've read Agnus Castus can help lengthen a short luteal phase. Is it ok to take even if you have a regular cycle but just a short luteal phase? My friend has an even short cycle than mine (27 days) but is always regular. She ovulates on days 19 or 20 according to OPKs. She doesn't really want to go to the Dr yet.

Any advice gladly welcomed!
