Hi all, this may not even be a thing but I’m just wondering if there are any particular foods you’ve eaten that you’ve felt have aided conception? Hmm

In the past couple of years I’ve lost a total of 8st so now I have a healthy BMI & my diet is pretty balanced but willing to try anything that may boost our chances as we are new to TTC Halo

When I was conceiving (conceived successfully second cycle) I was eating a banana everyday (morning) and a lot of nuts.

BlueSky57 · 02/01/2022 23:12

Oo thank you @ExpectingLady93! I love bananas so will try one every morning in the hope it works for me too Smile any nuts in particular too?

That is an incredible amount of weight to lose OP. Congratulations on that alone!!! Have you and partner had any tests to see if there are any issues? How long have you TTC and how old are you?

I'd recommend the book 'It starts with an egg'. I got a cheap copy off ebay. Its not just about foods, but also everyday things around the home you can change, which 'might' affect fertility and improve things. I do think its whole approach- not just a change in diet that can help, but obviously depends on the reason for infertility.

Some things I've done is change from tinned tomatoes, to ones in jars or cartons. I no longer have room deodorisers or reed diffusers all over the place. I have a natural, non-perfumed, spray in the toilet. I also use perfume free body wash, soap and washing up liquid now.

I also started DH on a lycopene supplement. Its naturally found in red fruit/veg such as tomatoes. I found some limited studies that it can improve sperm quality. I now take ubiquinol 200mg daily. Can't say its helped yet though.

I was ttc for 8 months with my second and my friend recommended me and my partner both eat a few Brazil nuts everyday and she also recommended early morning sex only(around 7am.) Did both and got pregnant that month. Currently nearly 11 weeks 😊

BlueSky57 · 03/01/2022 00:02

@Hairyfriend wow that is all so useful, thank you! I will definitely try to get my hands on a copy of the book, would never have thought of some of those things!

We are both 31 & currently still on our first month ttc & waiting for AF to arrive, so right at the beginning of our journey. Have had BFNs so far though so just wanted to try to help increase our chances in the next cycle!

Thank you for your comment on my weight loss. I had a dangerously high BMI & did not want to even try to get pregnant then. So I lost the weight & told myself that I’d only start trying when I was in the healthy BMI category & now is finally that time Smile

Hummus! High oestrogen apparently.

Weight has a massive effect on hormones. I'd TTC 4yrs. DH and I both lost 10kg each and I conceived the following month! I was only just inside the overweight category before losing the weight and I'd also left a very stressful job, so not sure what helped really. Unfortunately, things didn't work out though.

If you do get the 'starts with an egg book', by Rebecca Fett, get the newest version, which is 2019. I haven't finished reading it as yet. I asked the fertility consultant about the ubiquintol/lycopene etc. He said that as long as the cost isn't prohibitively expensive, then it cant do any harm. You will find some fertility 'supplements' can be very expensive, despite being the same ingredient and strength as a cheaper brand. I recall Zita West has a range of supplements which I thought were expensive, compared to similar, or exact same products.

Best of luck op, and if you do have questions, just ask.

Almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds Smile

Took about 8 cycles to conceive. On the last cycle I was eating pineapple (you have to eat with skin though - look it up online if interested) and took CQ10 supplement (300mg so extra strength).
That cycle - bang - I was pregnant.

Could be a coincidence.

Sleepyquest · 03/01/2022 12:19

I eat a load of shite and conceived first time twice so don't let it consume you. Losing 8stone will have definitely improved your chances. I would suggest cutting caffeine and alcohol though

Good luck Smile

Not food but I had acupuncture to help me conceive. It worked

Flopsy88 · 03/01/2022 12:38

The month I conceived I drank a glass of grapefruit juice every day in the 2 weeks leading up to ovulation and I definitely noticed an increase in egg white cervical mucus (sorry tmi!). We followed the sperm meets egg plan and I laid with my legs in the air after sex (which felt very silly). Also had green smoothies with pineapple core every day, a handful of brazil nuts and a glass of pomegranate juice. No idea if any of that helped as I had them on the months we didn't concieve too but it made me feel healthy.
Good luck and congrats on your weight loss!

The male to eat tomatoes apparently
