5 day Luteal Phase panic

Hi everyone, Happy New Year! I came off the pill in July to TTC, my periods didn’t come back until October. I’ve now had 3 cycles - gradually getting shorter, the first was almost 40 days but latest 27. What is worrying me is my Luteal Phase is consistently around 5 days - I’m tracking ovulation with LH tests. I’m not sure if I should give things more time to work themselves out, or if it’s worth contacting a doctor sooner rather than later. Any advice (or happy stories from people with short LPs) would be very welcome.

I had a 5 day LP too. TTC for a year without success. I was temp tracking and was convinced that I had conceived three or four times during that year (because of temp changes), but that my period had started before implantation. My GP was umming and aahing about whether to refer me, so I decided to try a progesterone gel that I bought off the internet. Successfully conceived first cycle of using it. I will never know whether it was a coincidence.

@Sunrise321 no problem at all - fingers crossed for some answers for us both :)

@charlatane thank you, that’s really helpful to hear! I might try the progesterone gel, it might be a coincidence but I’d rather try everything. Really pleased to hear you got your BFP

I'm here because my luteal phase is around 5/6 days so I thought I'd do a bit of reading. I have 25/26 day cycles and I ovulate around 19/20. We're currently trying for baby number three and I was wondering if it's an issue. But when I've gone back, I don't think my luteal phase has ever been very long. I conceived my first child after 5 months (unfor ended at 28 weeks due to genetic issue) and I conceived second child on a complete wim having sex once randomly in the month (she's one now and thriving). So I do think it's possible with a short luteal phase.

Which gel did you buy @charlatane?

Take agnus castus (vitex) it's supposed to help regulate periods. A short LP can cause fertility difficulties but can also be easy fixed with the right treatment

Hey! A bit late here but I also have a 5 day LP and was wondering if anyone had any more success stories ? Have heard some specialists prescribe progesterone …

Stanley1099 · 01/11/2022 21:38

Hi Carlotta. Funny one - I posted a little further up back in February. My luteal phase remained short at 5/6 days but I found out I was pregnant again a few weeks ago. Already had an 8 week scan and so far so good. No tablets or intervention. So I Def think it's possible!

Carlotta27 · 02/11/2022 06:53

Omg @Stanley1099 that’s amazing news and thank you so much for sharing , it’s given me hope!

may I ask - had your LP
always been that short and was it always a short cycle for you ? Xxx

Carlotta27 · 04/11/2022 12:50

Hey @charlatane wondering where you found the progesterone gel? All I’ve seen online seem to be prescription only! X

Saribon · 04/11/2022 12:58

I think high dose vitamin b6 can help luteal phase alongside agnus castus x

Saribon · 04/11/2022 12:58

I've just started it today but my luteal phase is 11-12 days
