Pull out method

I know this is not a "method" to prevent pregnancy per say but I'm just wondering how many of you fell pregnant this way? My partner and I are currently using the withdrawal method as we're not actively trying but will be in the not too distant future. Just wondering how many of you guys out there fell pregnant this way? Is it a common occurrence or pretty rare still?

It’s not a way of preventing pregnancy, lots of people get pregnant this way.

Either you’re happy to potentially fall pregnant, or you should use contraception.

DramaAlpaca · 29/12/2021 18:16

If you are doing that you ARE effectively trying as you are not using contraception. And yes, lots of babies have been conceived that way.

Abouttoblow · 29/12/2021 18:17

It's not a method. It's a way to get pregnant whilst claiming you're not trying to get pregnant.

Babdoc · 29/12/2021 18:19

What do you call people who use the withdrawal method?
Parents.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 29/12/2021 18:20

Yep. That's how DD3 arrived.

PlanetNormal · 29/12/2021 18:21

It’s called ‘Catholic roulette’ for a reason…

mobear · 29/12/2021 18:23

This is how DS came about.

itsmellslikepopcarn · 29/12/2021 18:23

I know I’ll get an eye roll and a tut, and I don’t encourage people to do it but this has been my method for the last 10 years. One pregnancy on the very first time we didn’t pull out. It’s worked for me so far.

KaleJuicer · 29/12/2021 18:23

Three friends had sex this way (two babies and one abortion were the result)

Grandmotherschina · 29/12/2021 18:24

It works about as well as having sex standing up. Which is to say it doesn’t

Applecrumble24 · 29/12/2021 18:24

I used the withdrawal method for 5 months between getting my coil out and my wedding, I didn’t fall pregnant. I was fully aware that I could fall pregnant though and that would have been ok, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken the risk.

hidinginquote · 29/12/2021 18:25

I don't know... Personally I've been using it for 12 odd years and only got pregnant the 2 times it was planned so not "withdrawing" anything so to speak! Those two times i got pregnant the first try so I'm sure there are no fertility issues that have enable me to not get pregnant all the other times!

LittleWins · 29/12/2021 18:26

Was doing this for 2 years without issue/pregnancy. We’re now TTC.

UnicornsandRainbows1 · 29/12/2021 18:27

Well there's your answer.

It's not a reliable method because it's not reliable...

Lizbiz89 · 29/12/2021 18:27

@itsmellslikepopcarn that's so interesting because you hear people say it's like playing roulette and then you hear others like yourself say they've used it for years without any issues. That's why I find it such an interesting topic and wanted to gauge people's experiences who have actually done it.

Currently pregnant with DC2 only 3 months after having DD and DP pulled out🙃 it didn't fail for me for years on end but now I know it really can't be trusted

miltonj · 29/12/2021 18:29

Me and husband have used the method for years and never had a baby until we were trying to actively conceive which was easy when we did. I've read something about Precum and how men either have sperm in it or not. So some couples will be pretty safe using this and some not so much.... of course I have no idea how you would go about finding this out!
I wouldn't use this method if I was dead set against having a baby, but if you're willing to take the risk...crack on. No hormones messing with your mood and body and boring condoms!

Bohoboo · 29/12/2021 18:29

Used it post 2 dds as felt I knew my cycle well. One month realised that I had ovulated early, took morning after pill within 12 hours which didn't work - pregnant. Not a reliable form of contraceptive. DH had a vasectomy pretty pronto after that!!

GoldMoon · 29/12/2021 18:29

Congratulations for your 2022 baby !

Kljnmw3459 · 29/12/2021 18:30

We did this for many years without problems. Stopped it when we started to TTC.

Ginger1982 · 29/12/2021 18:37

I've never understood the appeal of pulling out. Too messy.

This 😂😂but then again even when not pulling out it's still messy 😂

Same. Surely it ruins the mood as well?

Fine, not everything has to be PIV all the time, but to never be able to just bash on and finish must be a bit tiresome.

Regardless, no, it's not a reliable form of contraception.

Lizbiz89 · 29/12/2021 18:50

@miltonj did you track ovulation and avoid PO on those days or did you just use it throughout your whole cycle?

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 29/12/2021 18:51

I used it successfully in my youth for a very active year (before Gillick competency meant you could get the pill without parents being notified).

Many years later DC were planned to the month, so I don’t think I was sub-fertile, just lucky perhaps.
