Covid vaccine and ovulation issues

Hi

I wanted to post as feeling so upset and helpless. I decided to get the Pfizer vaccine in October after putting it off due to fears around it messing with my cycle. I felt pressured into getting it and now on cycle day 41 with no sign of af coming, had black blood mid cycle and didn't ovulate. My period normally runs like clockwork - 28 days and ovulation always around day 14. I just needed to vent and see if this has happened to others and how delayed af was, as desperate to start trying again, we have been since August but had to take a break due to dh being ill, this is driving me mad :(

Hi @mia899

I had similar after my second vaccine in October. I had an anovulatory month, all LH tests negative, then started spotting on day 20+21, again day 24, 25 and 26. My cycles are usually 28 days. I had a period on day 27, although very light and longer than usual.

They have returned to normal now but it was a very stressful month. Have you spoken to your GP?

Mybalconyiscracking · 27/12/2021 10:14

It’s stress, not the vaccine.

NilPoisDrama · 27/12/2021 10:41

Sorry, just to confirm. It was a stressful month due to my cycle being all over the place. I wasn’t particularly stressed that month. There are several studies explaining that the data collected so far suggests the vaccine will affect women’s cycles but they return to normal shortly after. There’s no doubt in my mind that it was the vaccine that affected my cycle, hence why I reported it on the yellow card.

Hope yours returns to its usual rhythm soon. X

WhatsitWiggle · 27/12/2021 10:49

I completely missed a period the first month after my Pfizer (booster) vaccine, and the second month was very short and light. Have reported on the yellow card. I'm perimenopausal but on HRT so it would be hellish coincidental if my periods have decided now is the time to go AWOL.

Mum2Girls19 · 28/12/2021 11:23

Im going through the same thing now and just had my booster but I was already late when I had it
I do think its due to stress though

Tippexy · 28/12/2021 11:53

@Mybalconyiscracking

It’s stress, not the vaccine.
How patronising. And how incorrect. Research it - huge numbers of women are finding the vaccine has affected their periods.
MrsJ6921 · 28/12/2021 14:58

Just to avoid any females reading this anxious over getting the vaccine and for further clarification it is well documented that ALL if not MOST vaccines effect a woman’s cycle not just the Covid Vaccines.

Lazypuppy · 28/12/2021 15:00

Still check to see if you are still ovulating, no period doesn't mean no period, anf don't forget you will likely ovulate before your first period anyway. I was TTC, and i've not had a period since coming off the pill but ovulated and am now pregnant

Chanel05 · 28/12/2021 15:08

This happened to me too. Very late cycle then next cycle 9 days early. No red blood and only brown both periods.

Tippexy · 28/12/2021 15:23

Do you mean ‘most if not all?’ Could you cite your claim?
bordermidgebite · 28/12/2021 15:30

Have you reported this as a potential side effect ?

mia899 · 29/12/2021 09:21

@NilPoisDrama thank you, reassuring to know that you experienced an anovulatory month too. I have had a call with my GP, as i have fibroids they suggested this was likely to be the cause, which is frustrating and to call again if it doesnt show up in the next month x

@Chanel05@Lazypuppy ahh now im wondering if that black spotting was my period and i've missed ovulation again

Just to say, it is definitely not stress, i got married in the middle of restrictions changing, it was the most stressful time of my life and still my period was like clockwork!
Thank you all for your responses xx

I had similar but back to normal within a few months (41 day cycles no ovulation) - HOWEVER I also came off the pill around the same time as the vaccine so it definitely could be related to that rather than vaccine - but previously when I’ve come off the pill this hasn’t happened. Anyway all is sorted now so try not to worry!

Doveyouknow · 29/12/2021 09:31

I just had my booster and my period came 7 days early. The same thing happened with the first vaccine. My cycle went back to normal after the early period following my first jab and I assume it will be the same this time. As explained above this is a known effect of the vaccine and other vaccines. It's more obvious with the covid vaccine though because a large number of women have been vaccinated at the same time.

SmallElephant · 29/12/2021 09:35

I had two AZ vaccines and my period was unaffected, but I haven't had a period since having my Pfizer booster (period was due a week after the booster and is now 12 days late).

FrazzledCareerWoman · 29/12/2021 09:35

Yes I had this with first moderna. 40 day anovulatory cycle. When I got my second I made sure it was after ovulation and period came as normal. I think the immune response can delay or stop ovulation. No issues after booster either (I also did it in second half of cycle).

squishymarshmellow · 29/12/2021 09:36

I cycle track (to avoid pregnancy) and I had my booster three days before I was due to ovulate.

I ovulated a week later than usual and got pregnant.

The first two jabs messed my periods up for a few months after so while they do play havoc down there it hasn't reduced or stopped my fertility.

mia899 · 05/01/2022 09:18

Just to update, my period came on cycle day 48 - it feels pretty normal and i'm really hoping i ovulate this month. Thank you all for your responses xx

blondieee · 05/01/2022 22:48

Don't listen to people telling you 'it's stress' when they don't even know you Hmm it definitely isn't stress, the vaccine is causing problems for thousands of women regarding their cycles. I'm glad your cycle has retuned and hope it stays that normal from now on for you.

Boombangboom · 06/01/2022 06:09

You be had severely stressful times and it doesn’t alter periods. It was the vaccine. Also @MrsJ6921 can you cite the research that shows all vaccines affect the menstrual cycle?? I’ve seen research that SARS vaccine does but not every vaccine ...

MummyMe87 · 06/01/2022 06:18

Yes my cycles were affected by my first and third vaccine. My cycles was affected by actually having covid aswell. They do go back to normal fairly quickly though. It’s due to an immune response

Anniegreece · 18/10/2024 19:16

I got pregnant from the first try before the covid vaccine. After the covid vaccine, i cant seem to get pregnant, we’ve been trying for a year. Im devastated, i truly believe it affected my fertility. Does anyone else feel that way?

Makingchocolatecake · 19/10/2024 01:47

I've heard of this, but only as a temporary thing for a month or two
