Worried something is wrong with me

I am 33 and have had regular 28 day cycles my whole life. I have 2 children, who I had young, 1 at 16, 1 at 22. I have met the love of my life and we plan to marry in April and start a family a year later. He has never had children and wants to be a dad so much.
My periods were regular until last month, my period came 12 days late which had never happened before. I have a copper coil, so no nasty things playing with my hormones. I then had a longer than normal period, lasting 9 days, instead of the usual 6/7 days. A week later, I had spotting which lasted for 4 days, again never happened before.
If my period was going back to 28days then I would have come on a week ago, but nothing, I'm now on day 35 of the cycle, not pregnant as I have checked.
My doctor did some bloods following the spotting and all was OK apart from a slight folic acid deficiency so I have been given folic acid tablets. They have also referred me for an internal scan just to check all OK as its so out of the norm for me, but good knows when that will be as the NHS is so behind at the minute.

I just can't stop worrying though, why would my periods suddenly change like thus, what's wrong with me? I'm so scared something is happening that will effect my fertility. 😔

@Sar33 have you been vaccinated? The vaccines have really messed with people cycles so it could very well just be that. Otherwise might be worth getting the coil out to see what your body does without it? I don't know much another the coil but just an idea.

Sar33 · 21/12/2021 20:32

I had my vaccine in January and April and the change only started when November's period was due. Only had my booster today. So don't think it's that.
I have the coil with no hormones so there should be no reason why it would cause any issues 🤷‍♀️

I am worrying so much and all sorts is going through my mind.

I'll bet you it is the vaccine unfortunately. Everyone I know is saying the same thing

@Sar33 I'm sure it's absolutely nothing to worry about. Cycles occasionally do that and it's confusing but it usually doesn't mean anything. I've had the odd weird cycle and then things have settled down again. It's usually stress related (even if you're not aware you're stressed, the mind is subtle)

What bloods did your Dr do?

Xxx

Sar33 · 21/12/2021 23:42

Thank you, I hope it goes back to normal.
Although because it hasn't come I'm going to mess it up more tomorrow by taking them tablets that stop your periods from the GP as I'm away next week on a romantic break. It's had its chance to turn up but I'm not risking my break being ruined.

My doctor did full bloods x

@Sar33 for me noresthisterone made my subsequent cycles longer just to let you know. I also sometimes (but not always) get a little low after a few days so just be aware if that happens, it could just be the pills. I've taken it a few times to regulate my cycle for IVF.

To test fertility, you need to test on Days 1-3 of your menstrual cycle and you need to check your FSH, LH and possibly estrogen. To check you are ovulating you need to test progesterone 7 days post ovulation and you can also test something called AMH at any time (although GPS don't usually test this). I'm just mentioning it because GPs are often quite badly informed about fertility but your may well have done this (especially the days 1-3 tests).

As I said though, I wouldn't worry about this for now. Give it a couple of months to come back to normal and have a great romantic break. Can't even remember what that's like !!!

That's interesting as I took the pills back at end of August, beginning of September while I was on holiday in Greece too, I wonder if that is what is causing the issue, however I have used them before and all has been fine after. I had a breakthrough bleed for one day when I took them last time so I'm mindful of that, as I was prepared so had to dash to a chemist 🙈

They probably didn't do all them tests then, I had the blood test on one of the days I was spotting.

I wasn't planning any more children before and now I am in the future, my periods go crazy. Typical!

Hopefully the appointment fir the scan comes soon so I can at least rule out anything nasty.

@Sar33 well hopefully that's what has caused the issue. Also I do think the fact that you are suddenly thinking about having more kids can lead to these things going crazy. My regular periods have always done something strange before an IVF cycle even when I've felt relaxed about it. The mind, body and menstrual cycle are strange things.

If you do have genuine concerns in the future about your fertility then do come back on to these forums to chat. Identifying issues is complex and one set of bloods or a scan doesn't usually find the answers.

For now though, just enjoy your hols and try to forget about it I reckon

X

Hi dear @Sar33, it may be a combination of stress and booster shot, but I would go to a gp if it continues a couple more months.
