i think nh101 was on clomid and she is pg with twins....

ask in antenatal and pg as well.

fruitloop79 · 18/12/2007 16:55

let us know what they tell you

My sister-in-law had non-identical twins after being on clomid. I was on it but was scanned every few days to make sure that I wasnt producing too many eggs. Are you going to be scanned?

notmyrtle · 19/12/2007 15:14

I don't think 40% is accurate - I've taken clomid a number of times & the statistic I've been told is that 8-10% of women who conceive will end up with twins (and a much smaller risk of HOMs).

Saying that, I know a woman who conceived quads on her first 50mg cycle ... I suppose someon has to be that tiny percent!

Maybe its because you have a history of twins in the family that your % is increased to the average women.

I also know someone who had clomid and had twins.

Good luck!

nomoremagnolia · 19/12/2007 19:07

I was told 10% incresed chance of multiple birth by the gynae and the leaflet with the Clomid said the same. Are the twins in your family identical or non-identical? Id twins is not heridtary, only non-id. (Genetically prone to ov'ing twice in one cycle - chances of embryo splitting to make id twins is pure fate)

sambrads · 19/12/2007 21:33

hi ya all there is 4 sets of non identical twins in my family so i think i could have a good chance of having them myself !!!!

well to be honhest i just want a baby how many i dont really mind as long as everything is ok !!

not sure about getting scanned more often but i would need to ask about that.

Clomid is a drug (Clomefene Citrate) which makes you ovulate if you're not doing so. It has to be prescribed by a gynae/ doctor and you are monitored on it as over stimulation can be dangerous. The most common reason for not ovulating is a condition called PCOS. The drug works by blocking the estrogen your body makes in the first few days of your cycle, forcing it to make more, which makes ovulation happen.

I was told 10% chance (which I chose to see as 90% chance of NOT!) of having twins on clomid... but only conceived the one

sambrads · 20/12/2007 09:07

i was prescribed clomid cause the the doctor said my whole horomones are not doing what they should be . i have an underactive thyroid and it went so low my periods stopped for a while so that has caused me not to ovulate . i alraedy have a ds who i love to bits but i just hope this helps!!!

my sis had a baby yesterday girl 6:4 she is so so tiny as my ds was 8:4 and she had a cs and tried to say it is worse than giving birth natural but i dont think so !!!!

maybe after she will be alot sorer!!!!

On my 4th month of using clomid, I conceived and am having non-identical twins.

I was just about to give up on clomid and take a break, when we decided to give it one more try an dnow I'm four and a half months pregnant with twins. I find out in two weeks what I'm having.
