Hi first time here…I am trying to conceive for the last two months….only this month using ovulation kit…I am on CD 17…and tested to see if I am ovulating using first response ovulation test…but it’s so confusing to interpret….I see a second line but it’s not as dark as the test line …is it still dark enough to mean that I am ovulating? A response would be appreciated

Click the paper clip.

With ovulations tests the line needs to be as dark as test line or darker. If it's lighter you're not at your peak.

How long is your usual cycle? Cycle day 17 is a bit too late to be testing of you have a standard 28 day cycle - you should test every day from around cycle day 9 really

Didn’t it come with instructions? It has to be darker than the control line. It’s not like a pregnancy test where any line at all is a positive.

It’s hard to say with a photo but you’d expect the line to be very dark, equal to or darker than the test line.

You can be OPKs from Amazon / eBay, quite cheaply. Start testing from about day 10 so that you can see the progression.
17 is a bit later than “average” but I actually didn’t see my surge until about day 18 and ovulated around 20. So it’s not impossible at all.

Something to note is that LH is present throughout your cycle so no matter when you test you will get some degree of line (faint ones) but obvs you’re looking for a dark one. That’s why it’s a good idea to test for a period of days in a row.

Good luck!

Hello @Hopeful1311 I’m only on in my 1st cycle so still learning too but I got the clear blue tests with the smiley faces as I was a bit unsure how to read the lines too.

You may have already seen them they show a blank circle when you’re not fertile and then a flashing smiley when they detect a rise in estrogen which they say are your high fertility days and then a static smiley when they detect your LH surge and these are your peak fertile days. That’s my understanding anyway. Takes the guess work out of reading the lines.

As I said only my 1st cycle so not sure yet how well they will work for me and they are pricey so if you can get your head around the cheaper ones with the lines it may be better but while you’re unsure could be worth trying the ones with smileys.

Best of luck to you Smile
