Im 34 had DS 4 years ago, pretty much first time, first try got pregnant. The birth was quite horrendous and took me over a year to recover emotionally. OH wanted to try when DS was 2 but I wasnt ready. Since then I've come round to it and agreed to try for no2. We started in the summer but still no luck. It's so disheartening every month when it doesn't happen, it get me down so much.

Im currently taking folic acid tablets and using a ovulation calendar to track, however just when I thought I got it right, my period comes early.

Can you please share with me any tips. What you are eating, doing to track or anything else? Also how long did it take your after your first? I'd really appreciate it.

I understand that everyone is different

Hi @DulockIs

I’m not sure if I’ll be the best help as this is only cycle 1 for me ttc #1 so Im totally new to all of this.

However I thought it’s worth mentioning I started tracking my cycles on an app properly for about 6 months now. This was due to the fact I never know when AF is going to show up so it just helped me to know. While doing this it also tracked my ovulation so I got a good idea of when this was too even though I wasn’t ttc.

Last month I started using ovulation tests. Just the cheapie ones in anticipation of starting to ttc the following month and I found I last month I ovulated at a completely different time to when the app said I would. It was very out.

So I’ve decided to continue to use the tests rather than track via an app and this month I’m using the CB tests with the smiley faces (although I have a slight complication this month because I used period delay tablets but that’s another point).

If you haven’t done any tests it could be worth trying to test as it’s possible your tracking could be out too?

Best wishes to you I hope you get the news you want very soon Smile

The Flo app. I have heard it’s accurate for a lot of ladies but last month for me it was totally off so I’ll probably keep using it but also use the ov tests as well incase Smile

Hey OP! Similarly to you I conceived my DD 3.5 years ago straight away. Currently 13 weeks pregnant and it took 5 months which I know isn't long but it felt like ages and I was convinced myself is left it too late (even though only age 36).

I used the clear blue ovulation monitor which was fab. Took pregnacare preconception throughout. In the last two months of TTC I also took evening primrose oil to increase cervical mucus which I'm convinced made a difference! I took 1000mg a night starting at the end of my period up until ovulation finished. You must stop taking it then as it's not safe in pregnancy x

Good luck OP! It will happen xxx

Hi op , the apps are rubbish as assume everyone has a 28 day cycle.
You can order opks on amazon or anywhere like that. You can get 100 for next to nothing.
Opks show two lines, one is the control and the other line should get as dark or darker as you ovulate. It’s really important to know when you ovulate so you can have sex in the days before ovulation, on the day and the day after ( if you can manage!)
You’ll normally get signs ovulation is approaching so google those too.
There are other ways to confirm ovulation but this is good for beginners. Once you get more comfortable you can look at stuff like bbt ( which confirms ovulation has definitely happened)
You can use presseed which is a sperm friendly lubricant too, just helps them get to the goal!
You and your partner should take the supplements as set out in ‘it starts with the egg’ book. It’s worth a read.
Good luck !

@newtolineofduty
Congratulations!

Yes I feel the same, I'm regretting taking so long to try again. Even though I'm trying not to overthink it all, I'm putting pressure on myself and stressing about it which I know doesn't help the situation.

Will definitely look into those things. Need to take a trip to boots tomorrow.

Thank you for sharingSmile

@DulockIs
Hi
In similar situation to yourself. Had my DD who is not far off 4, 3 years 9 months. And her birth was traumatic. Took me a long time recover. And I’ve had ongoing problems. So no or health reasons we couldn’t try. Thought second was out of the question tbh and I’d tried to come to terms with it.

Moved forward with my health so decided to go for it as it’s what we wanted deep down. And we’ve been try since May and nothing. On cycle 8 atm. An I’m so desperate for it to happen. I’ve wanted a second baby for 2.5 years and had to just try accept and swallow it wasn’t going to happen.
Feels so cruel this waiting game.

So totally feel you.

I have been trying lots of extra things thing month. EPO from CD1 until ovulation for cervical mucus. And I do think I got more. Made sure my vitamins etc are all correct.
Bought a ferti Lily cup to use. Can buy in boots so have a Google of it.
And also been eating Brazil nuts every day of luteal phase. In my 2ww. And praying it won’t be much longer!!

What cycle are you on? xx

DulockIs · 11/12/2021 00:25

@Indianna2006 makes me sad hearing peoples struggles in this. Hope you get there soon.

I'm on my 5th cycle, I know its not been long. I totally get the desperation you mention.
