Early pregnancy scan

Hi everyone

I’m having an early scan on Wednesday (prev ectopic). By my LMP I should be over 6 weeks by then, however I have long cycles and believe I ovulated late so I think I’m more likely 5 weeks. Has anyone had a scan at 5/6 weeks and can tell me what is normal to see? Thank you!

I would expect to see nothing, that way if you do see something it’s a bonus. Don’t panic if you see nothing as it’s very early days.

I had an early scan at 5/6 weeks with my last pregnancy (now 11 years old) due to bleeding. All I saw was a tiny sac, went back 2 weeks later and saw a heartbeat, it was a really long 2 weeks of waiting. Good luck.

Good luck OP. I had a partially ruptured ectopic last year just over 5weeks, and just started to TTC again for baby no3.
You are very unlikely to see a HB at this stage but should hopefully see that the embryo is hopefully in the uterus

I had a scan which dated me at 6+6 (also had long cycles so didn't know ovulation) and saw a heartbeat. I expect if you're 5/early 6 weeks, you may just see a sac. Good luck x

I had a scan at 5-6 weeks and there was a flicker heart beat when they did it trans vaginale

The scan looked like a little pip. I was very distressed but apparently all normal.

I'm now 22 weeks pregnant

I would definitely be prepared to see nothing / very little, particularly if your dates are at all unsure. My first scan (thought I was at 5, probably 4) saw nothing. Next week saw a sac but no observable yolk. Now I'm 11w and tracking perfectly. Didn't see heartbeat until 8w.

Update from scan

Unfortunately a pregnancy couldn’t be confirmed to be in my uterus. They thought they saw a ‘cystic’ area which could potentially be a sac however it was elongated rather than round in shape. They’ve diagnosed me with a pregnancy of unknown location and have taken a blood test for hCG levels. Really hoping I don’t have to go through another ectopic 😔

HCG levels have come back at 631 and re test due on Friday. Hopefully some answers then x

Thank you, that gives me a bit of hope. I do feel completely different this time. No pain or bleeding and hCG is much higher so fingers crossed.

I've been in your position, nothing really on the early scan and having to rely on the HCG results. Thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Second hCG came back at 1952 so it has tripled in less than 48 hours! No more bloods needed and a rescan booked for Christmas Eve.

A good outcome for my scan this morning… a little jelly bean with a heartbeat! Measuring around 6weeks, and most importantly growing in the right place.
