Right - have 3 ds's and had mirena fitted in September - quite happy with it - no problems. Have still been having periods. But have also noticed have also been ovulating .... (the mucus stuff dead give away) soooo if I am having periods and ovulating and have had sex - does this mean I could get pg or is the coil doing something else to stop conception? I know it doesn't stop the release of eggs and they probably explained it when I got it fitted but had a really bad cold at the time and wasn't particularly listening - but how exactly does it work and if this seems like it isn't working should I get the coil removed asap before any possible fertilised egg reaches my uterus? I wouldn't like to miscarriage if I found out too late I was pg iyswim. I know it is way too ealy to tell if pg but do other people ovulate????? (and its literally been two weeks since last period, had sex last night and have started ovulating today)

Anyone?

the coil irritates the lining of your womb, so there is nothing for a potential baby to implant into.

it also thickens mucus, making it harder for sperm to survive/get into in your uterus.

dont get it removed, coils are used up to 5 days after sex to prevent pg, it is very rare you will get pg with one in place.

I've had mine over 2 years still have light bleeding and ovulation mucus and I'm very very fertile. GP said I still bleed because I'm young but as my periods were horrifically heavy and long and I used to have break through bleeding on the combined pill I guess I'm just one of those.....
