How many cycles did it take for you to conceive?

There seems to be so many people who become pregnant in the first 3 months of trying.... or it takes much longer. Intrigued by actual statistics from you ladies on here.

How many cycles did it take you?

(I am trying for baby number 1 and moving into the 8th cycle of TTC)

@InnPain I'm not sure patience was the right word for it. We actively stopped trying after 15yrs and were gobsmacked and blindsided when I fell pregnant 2yrs later, and again 2yrs after that.

My boys (now 20 & 23) will forever be a source of great wonder.

Hi @FlyOnTheWall89 and @BritInNZ just wondering how you both got on since? This thread was so interesting to read through and shows there is no rhyme or reason to any of it! Currently about to start my 9th month TTC after starting AF yesterday (after a 2 WEEK cycle 🙈), have a consultation with a fertility clinic in a few weeks, but would love to know if you ladies had any positive news since x

BritInNZ · 01/09/2022 21:48

@galwaygirl90 mixed news from me! It took me 17 months and I fell pregnant on my first cycle of letrozole. I referred to a fertility specialist at the 9 month mark and started testing. Once I got over a year I had a HSG and after that was clear, we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. My specialist offered letrozole as a cheap last option to try for 6 months before we would have gone down the IVF route - and BAM pregnant the first month. I've actually just got home from a scan and I'm just over 14 weeks 😊 I found months 6-12 the hardest so I really sympathise with you. I know what a worry it is and I don't have any magical words of wisdom, other than keep going and once you can, start the testing for both yourself and your partner

galwaygirl90 · 01/09/2022 21:58

@BritInNZ ah I’m so delighted for you! God 17 months, I feel like I’m a million years trying just at the 9th month, can’t imagine what the last year and a half must have been like for you, so delighted you got your happy news - that gives me hope. We have had some testing done and DH has low morphology 2% so he’s been on a concoction of herbs for that. Also somewhat looks like my progesterone is low and may not ovulate (some) months, so I’m hoping they can just give me a magic pill like you in a few weeks time and the same will happen!! So they were never able to say why you weren’t getting pregnant?

BritInNZ · 01/09/2022 22:12

@galwaygirl90 well I know @FlyOnTheWall89 will have tips for the low morphology etc. She's pregnant now - a week or so ahead of me so is a wealth of knowledge! Yep letrozole or clomid might be an option if you're not consistently ovulating 😊 nope absolutely no rhyme or reason why it wasn't happening for us! Either the letrozole did the trick or a mix of all the other weird and wonderful things I was trying - socks overnight, nutritionist, conception lube... it's hard to pinpoint what it was but clearly letrozole did something!

Hi @galwaygirl90 !!

I'm nearly 4 months pregnant now. I pretty much stopped counting because it took what felt like SO LONG, but in the end I think it was 15 cycles.

We were 6 weeks from starting our first IVF (with ICSI) cycle which we were very much recommended based on my OH SA. He had 0% morphology which after 2.5 months on Proxeed, pycnogenol, ubiquinol, Vital DHA and Vit D, went up to 9% .... this was in conjunction with sharpening up lifestyle things like sticking to 1 cup of coffee etc. His borderline total sperm count (around 40 million I think) didn't improve in the 2 SA we had but when I fell pregnant we hadn't had a SA for 3 months because we had given up and booked IVF. If your OH has a strong count, 2 % isn't a disaster. Our fertility clinic said it's the easiest parameter of a SA to improve. We also saw a urologist to rule out varicocele and infection. Keep believing it will happen - on the group I am on with @BritInNZ lots of us joined it at 8/9 months in and numerous got pregnant around between 13-18 cycles. Sometimes it does just take that long.

Oh also, I had a HSG the cycle before I got pregnant... could be a coincidence but there does seem to be a pattern with HSG and positive pregnancy tests. BEST OF LUCK, it's so hard when you're in and it feels like it will never end. You will get there, just keep going xx

DS1: 15 cycles (We found out my husband has low sperm motility and were a day away from our first IVF round. I was 33.)

TTC2: 2 cycles and counting so far. It's not looking good though, I was praying we'd get lucky and it would happen first time after all the bother we had conceiving our son. We may end up paying for private IVF in the summer if nothing happens by then. I'm 35 now :(

....

Worth pointing out that each of those cycles included pinpointing ovulation and us taking all kinds of vitamins etc. I was very regimented about it from the beginning haha.

Small update for me. I got pregnant on that third cycle but had a MMC at nine weeks. I'm now on the fifth cycle following that. Fingers crossed this is the one!

Golaz · 02/09/2022 12:59

first pregnancy: a foolish accident- had unprotected sex literally once.

2nd pregnancy: cycle 2. Ended in MMC at 10.5 weeks.

3rd pregnancy: cycle 2.

4th pregnancy: cycle 7 (that really stressed me out although I know it’s little compared to what so many go through).

I’m about to start trying again and nervous..

Thanks so much @BritInNZ @FlyOnTheWall89 for coming back to me, your stories have given me so much hope!! And huge congrats on your pregnancy, what an amazing story, I can’t imagine the excitement/relief!! DH has decent count (100 mill total motile count I think in the last one), 74% overall motility. He’s going to repeat in Oct so really hoping for an improvement. I would also love to get a hycosy/HSG done as I’ve heard good reports also. Can I ask what the other thread is that you both are on? I’ll take all the inspo I can get!! I must say this thread here I think is the best of any forum I’ve been on - usually people never come back to say what happened after they get pregnant etc so most forums can look falsely negative most of the time x

FirstTimeTryer93 · 03/09/2022 08:57

3 cycles xx

Bumpsadaisie · 03/09/2022 09:01

We were very fortunate- first cycle for both of them.

JumpNWave · 03/09/2022 09:09

It’s wonderful to see people coming back having got pregnant!

I was the first of my friends to start a family. Got pregnant on 1st cycle with DC1, then second cycle (but had a m/c), then second cycle again for DC2. I also had an accidental pregnancy later on which I chose not to continue.

I admit I completely took for granted how straightforward it was until my friends started having babies and for so many of them it wasn’t straightforward at all.
Two of my close friends had IVF (one unsuccessfully; one successful on her fourth cycle). Another had multiple miscarriages. Even my best friend, who has no diagnosed fertility issues, tried for 2 years before she conceived her DD.

I certainly do not take it for granted anymore and I am very grateful I was lucky. It’s such a lottery.”, and causes so much pain and stress to so many people ❤️

JulyDreams · 03/09/2022 20:34

1 cycle after coming off pill

BritInNZ · 03/09/2022 21:52

@galwaygirl90 you're welcome - glad we could help! I think people are very quick to say when it was easy for them, but actually there's a lot of people that take over a year when you scratch the surface. The thread @FlyOnTheWall89 and I are on is the TTC 1 year+ part 3 thread. Everyone on there has been TTC for a while longer - some of us discovered issues with fertility, others like myself couldn't find anything. It's an amazing thread and a great support - would definitely recommend joining if you're finding things tough and would like an online community of support with people who just get it 😊 wishing you all the best and hopefully your positive test is just around the corner! I 100% know how you must be feeling and it's the toughest thing I have ever gone through x

Anonymous987 · 09/12/2022 17:49

I’m in the same position! How old is your first? Feel like I have pressure to conceive too as I don’t want the age gap between the two to be too big!
