BBT Temp

Hello,

Do you need a specific type of thermometer to measure BBT? I have a non-contact infrared thermometer. Is that any good for measuring BBT?

Thanks

You need an oral thermometer with two decimal points - ie a basal thermometer.

Your thermometer won't be suitable for this.

Thank you. What (brand of) thermometer would you recommend? I was reading reviews on Amazon but they're quite mixed. Feeling a bit confused!

I have the pretty basic femometer one, about £10-12, and it's absolutely fine unless you want fancier function like Bluetooth etc

I have the same £10 femometer one (although avoid their app and chart with fertility friend instead). It's basic but works well - been using mine daily for over a year and a half now!

Thanks ladies. Do you take oral readings every morning? Sorry I'm new to this! X

Yes every morning same time. Important to keep it consistent for clear results x

Fertility friend is the best app for graphs

ajayelbee · 15/11/2021 20:44

Sorry to jump on. I’m just wondering if there’s a reason you guys aren’t using the Femometer app, or if it’s just a preference thing?

Hopefulhedgehog · 15/11/2021 20:47

I haven't actually tried it but whenever people post charts on here the FF ones always seem to be the clearest

Hopefulhedgehog · 15/11/2021 20:48

*I mean I haven't tried femometer app

ajayelbee · 15/11/2021 21:53

Ah okay. Thank you! It’s the one I’m using, but only because I got that BBT thermometer!

Juno231 · 16/11/2021 07:28

@ajayelbee their charts are much less clear than FF's and their algorithms for detecting ovulation tend to be much poorer as well. I've used both and femometer can be way off on detecting ovulation at times, and the temp shifts are much harder to spot due to their chart scale.

ajayelbee · 16/11/2021 08:41

@Juno231 okay, thank you. I’ll give FF a try! This is the first month I’ve been using OPKs and tracking BBT, so I still don’t really know what I’m doing!
