PCOS Symptoms, Infertility but no PCOS

Hi all, would love to connect with someone in a similar situation to me. My husband and I have been TTC for 2 years. I am obese and suffer from irregular (6 week - 2 month), heavy and painful cycles. My periods have always been this way and so I always assumed I had PCOS. This summer I had a private assessment done and was told everything is normal from my bloods and ultrasound. We are now waiting to have an NHS fertility appointment (though I'm scared they'll tell me to turn around and come back when I've lost weight). I am currently trying to lose weight but with 5 and a half stone still to go to until I reach a healthy BMI, it feels overwhelming. I'm looking for any friendship or advice anyone can give as the disappointment month after month is getting so hard to bear. 😞

Hey :) it's probably your weight that's contributing to your heavy and painful cycles, I have lost some weight and it improves my periods greatly. I'm currently suspected PCOS and on cycle 20 something of trying, it's so draining!

I'm not trying for children OP but having PCOS i do know how losing even a little bit of weight greatly improves my periods both in regularity and symptoms.

@chlsgirl That’s weird that they didn’t diagnose you with PCOS. My bloods and my scans came back completely clear but I was diagnosed with pcos due to 36 to 40 day cycles, heavy bleeding and weight.

I saw an NHS gynaecologist when I was 17 who said I might be predisposed to it but that I didn't have it and then the private assessment recently also said I didn't have it. I'm guessing it is just my weight as can't think of any other reason. I am 5'6" and 16.9 stone but otherwise healthy and active. Would love to get to the bottom of it :S

Hey! I’m going through a slightly similar situation. I came off the pill and I had long heavy periods for about 18 months and then went to the Dr as I couldn’t put it down to getting back to normal after the pill anymore. Had blood tests & ultrasound where they found fibroids but nothing big enough for them to do anything about. They gave me Provera to help with the bleeding (because I was anaemic) and told me to switch to Tranexamic acid when I had lost a bit of weight. I took myself off Provera because I felt like it was just a stop gap and I couldn’t monitor my cycles properly.

I have lost 5 stone and during that time I didn’t/haven’t seen any improvement in my periods & cycles but the Dr’s don’t seem to take much notice, just want me to lose more. I’ve made the switch to Tranexamic acid only recently so can’t tell you if it will help at all but 🤞 I’m hoping it will slow down my bleeding so I can get a better gauge on my cycles but 🤷‍♀️

It’s very draining so I feel you ☹️

Keep pushing for answers. We started TTC in 2011 and I had cycles of 100+ days. The doctor's couldn't find anything wrong and just kept telling me to lose weight (although I was a lot slimmer at the time!). It took until 2018 and a new doctor before I finally got diagnosed with PCOS. I don't have any symptoms apart from long cycles and cysts on my ovaries.

Unfortunately TTC with irregular cycles is a battle but if you ovulate, then there's always a chance to fall pregnant. It's taken us 10 years but I have fallen pregnant twice with one successful pregnancy. I use Ovusense now too which has helped me to understand my cycle.
