Can evaps/false positives be this dark??

Hi everyone, hope you're all well Smile.

Feel a little nervous as despite reading posts on here for a while, this is my first ever post. Decided to come out of my shell to hopefully get some advice as I've always found the comments on here so kind and helpful even when just reading not posting.

I took a CB rapid detection test today (day of expected period) and it was stark negative when I did it, so I threw it in the bin after waiting 3 minutes. Next time I went into the bathroom my heart nearly stopped when I saw the 2nd line in the attached photo. I had no intention of rechecking the test as I know they are meant to be invalid outside the time window given, but it was in the general bathroom bin which is the lid-less one so I saw it lying on the top.

Is there any way this could be a real bfp or is it likely to be an evap/false positive?? I'm not actually sure how long after doing the test I saw it again, but it would've been 1 to 2 hours later I think. I've no idea when the line came up- could've been within a few minutes of me leaving bathroom or ages later...

I'm thrown by the fact the 2nd line seems so dark and blue whereas false positives supposedly lack colour, but I've seen it outside the time limit so don't know what to think. Trying not to get my hopes up as I had a missed mc in May at the end of my first trimester and we've been ttc unsuccessfully since then...now can't help wondering if this could be the rainbow baby we've been praying for. I did a FRER yesterday (day before period was due) and it was a bfn.

Wishing I had another test to hand, so please let me know your thoughts until I can retest, esp anyone this might have happened to and it did actually end up being a real bfp.

Thanks so much xxx

You have to be a member for at least 48 hours before you can post a picture.

It's really impossible to say. Is it a blue dye? They can be buggers for weird thin blue line dye runs or shadows that look blue. I'd assume it isn't positive until I could do another test. Try a FRER pink dye.

Unfortunately there were many posts and threads in recent weeks here that showed really dark evaps or indents, all were stark negative within the time frame and showed up a "positive" after maybe 20 minutes or so. And it's so hard to ignore them after you saw it right?

GirlMama21 · 09/11/2021 16:35

@Bundaberg84 Ahhh thanks, that would explain why I can't see any options to attach. I'll wait till I get the option and post.

@Starcaller Yes it's a blue dye. I'm just shocked at how clear and dark it is, I've always thought evaps etc were colourless. So frustrating trying to talk about it without being able to attach the photo- I will as soon as I get access.

@Bundaberg84 Ahhh so demoralising hearing that it has happened to others, it is a very dark, definite blue line- interesting that it's a THIN line which you mentioned in your post. Will assume it's a bfn until the frer arrive tmrw, so frustrating, especially when you're trying to conceive after a loss...bcz now even seeing a bfp doesn't 100% equate a baby at the end any more...

I'll update in either way in case it helps others in the same boat xx

It is, I know! I always throw mine out so I can't look at them again.
Some poster turned out to be really pregnant, others unfortunately not. So I guess it really is just an invalid test...
