COVID vaccine affecting cycles

What was everyone's experience with their period after the COVID-19 vaccination?

I was fine after my first one, period on time as usual. I had my second vaccination on 11 October and now I'm 5 days late for my period.

I had some PMS over the weekend (bloating, tired etc) and had a BFN on a test, so I know I'm not pregnant. Now I don't have any PMS symptoms, apart from slightly tender boobs, and my temp is still in luteal phase (didn't track ovulation so not sure if I ovulated late).

Just wondering if others were late, and if so, by how long? So frustrating when TTC and you just want your AF to start so you can get on with the next month!

Yes, tens of thousands of women have reported this. Their concerns were rubbished though. These are the most recent cases for Pfizer alone. Intrigued as to whether you just hadn’t heard about this previously or whether you thought it was an acceptable risk even giving that you’re ttc? If the latter, do you feel that you were able to give informed consent or would you have wanted to know more?

COVID vaccine affecting cycles

@SweetBabyCheeses99 I am not here to get into any discussion on the vaccine. After having a loved one die from COVID-19 with NO underlying health conditions, it's not a risk I would take for me or my future unborn baby. I have read/heard many stories of the true horrors that can happen should an unvaccinated pregnant woman be seriously ill with COVID too.

This was simply a question on whether people's periods have been late (not heavy like your screenshot shows).

I had a couple of (very light) periods after my first two vaccinations, whereas I don't usually bleed at all (coil). But I haven't had any period issues after having my booster

I read that it's likely to do with your immune a system gearing up - the same as your periods can change when you actually are ill with something or similar to other vaccines - apparently the HPV one causes similar period disruptions

Small1607 · 03/11/2021 21:50

Both of my cycles after each vaccine were 45-52 days instead of the usual 33

mrsS21 · 03/11/2021 21:53

Same @Small1607 my usual 33 day cycle was 54 then 45 days following 2nd jab. Thought we’d fallen on both times, was really gutted, but the DH heard this being discussed on the radio - at least I have a reason for wonky cycles!
Hopefully it settles back quickly

BritInNZ · 03/11/2021 22:12

@Small1607 @mrsS21 wow that's very late! I'm usually a 29 day cycle and currently on day 35, so guess I might have a lot more waiting to do! I wish it was a BFP but sadly looks like it's just the vaccine playing havoc with my hormones

It didn't affect cycles for me, or my daughter. I had Astrazeneca and she had Pfizer

tedsletterofthelaw · 03/11/2021 22:29

I've not had a 'period' since my second jab in July!

I'm on the combine pill but only skip 4 days rather than 7, but no period in those 4 days since then (I'm not pregnant - I checked!)

ExcitedtoTry · 03/11/2021 22:40

This is the first month where I’ve gone back to my usual 28 day cycle since the first jab in April. I would have got them still had I known but seems so odd that little is written about this.

lovingnewme · 03/11/2021 22:51

I missed a period completely after my 2nd jab - my periods have been regular up to that point.
I have no idea why the vaccines are messing up periods - drug companies tend to model around men and their needs so it probably wasn't a factor when they trailed the vaccines and now they aren't interested in hearing about the side effects either Hmm

Digby86 · 03/11/2021 23:34

Yep - More than 2 weeks late after my second pfizer! I had no idea it was a think until I started googling reasons for my usually clockwork cycle to have gone haywire! Went back to usual 26 days the next cycle.

BritInNZ · 03/11/2021 23:36

@Digby86 phew!! Two weeks is so long though 😩 it's even more annoying when you're TTC!

All three of my jabs made me ovulate a couple of days earlier than normal.

Sadly true 🙄

It was quite gutting to be honest - we were so convinced the first time! I had so many symptoms as with my first pregnancy…was really upset it wasn’t. But, on the other hand, I’d rather that than have got covid before having them!

lionsmum · 04/11/2021 10:37

Yeah it messed up 3 of my cycles, my usual 28-31 day cycles went to 52, 21 & 40. October was the first 'normal' cycle I'd had since having my 2nd vaccine. I couldn't understand what was going on! Doing tests frequently too, driving myself mad. So I totally feel your pain OP, so frustrating! Hope things regulate for you soon🙏🏼

BritInNZ · 06/11/2021 01:23

Thanks everyone - it's so frustrating! I'm now a week late for AF, got another BFN so definitely not pregnant. Still no sign of AF coming any time soon! Really annoying when you're TTC and just want AF out the way!

Neither jab had any affect on my periods that I noticed

GingerbreadTM · 06/11/2021 17:28

@BritInNZ I'm experiencing weird cycles from my first vaccine in August. Weird as in they are not a heavy flow but with quite a lot of mucus (sorry tmi).
I got my second vaccine last month and my AF only lasted 3 days the week after it, which I normally have a 5-7 day AF.

I had a chemical pregnancy in July and from it I don't even think I've ovulated 🥺
I am taking a break from ttc as September AF arriving nearly broke me.
But after Christmas I think I will start using ovulation kits as well as contacting my gp xx

BritInNZ · 09/11/2021 19:58

AF finally arrived 8 days late and it's soooo much heavier than usual. Not sure if that's because it was late or another side effect of the vaccine?!

Keep an eye on it and seek advice if you're not happy or worried 💜 hope you're ok xx
