Ovulation signs

Hi all,

We have been trying to conceive for 2+ years and currently seeing a specialist. I had a laparoscopy a few months ago due to no periods. The op went well and I've had one bleed since.

So long story short my dr has increased my Metformin from 2 doses to 3 per day to help with ovulation.

My question is what are the most common signs of ovulation that I can look out for? A previous dr told me there was no point monitoring BBT, so just trying to find all the info I can.

Thanks 😊

Well, I had my children before ovulation tests existed so we had to rely on natural signs. The most obvious of those is a change in the consistency of your cervical mucus. If it looks and feels like raw egg white that's a sign you are ovulating. Good luck!

Thanks both,

The Metformin tablets that I'm on are supposed to help me ovulate. So I imagine there won't be a particular time that I will ovulate so will need to look out for this.

Is the cervical mucus change during ovulation or before? When would be the best time to try?

It changes just before ovulation so that's the time to concentrate your efforts. After ovulation it goes thicker and sticky, rather than slippery.

Thank you 😊

I'll be sure to check

Do you think it's possible to ovulate more than once in a month?

I mean I get a period rarely but with these tablets I was wondering if it's possible more than once as they are supposed to help.

Change in cervical mucus was the only thing that gave it away for me and I tested with a strip so I know when I was ovulating. I conceive the month of trying with an ovulation stick... Smile

Ewcm is a good indicator but bear in mind you can have plenty without actually ovulating. I would put bbt back on the table - it works for the majority of women so I'm not sure why your doc would dismiss it so easily - especially as it sounds like you have pcos and therefore ovulation sticks and ewcm could be very misleading. Lots of ladies on here with pcos track their temps as it's the only thing that can help them understand when on earth they've ovulated.

No point in tracking? That's weird. I'm taking metformin for my cycles too and now I do have symptoms now (it took a few cycles to understand them all). The mucus changes colour a bit and I have slight pain on the side the egg is descending. Also, sometimes I've got all the period symptoms but in very light form... There is a way to track it with temperature (I will start next month I think).

I use a period tracker app and I note down every day all the symptoms I feel, in a few cycles you'll have enough data to draw some conclusions. I use "My calendar" for this.
