Low AMH

Sunshine2988 · 29/10/2021 20:02

I’m hoping anyone can give me a bit of reassurance or positive outcomes.
I’m almost 33 and have been ttc for 3 years. I had my AMH done at age 31 and it came back as 30pmol. So all fine nothing to worry about, fast forward to now, still no success after 4 months of clomid, I’ve had my AMH redone and it’s come back as 4.2. I’m just so upset and shocked that it’s so bad. My AFC was 12 which is just average. We’ll be doing ivf regardless but I could really do with a bit of a morale boost.
Thank you! X

Where did you get your most recent test done? Online or nhs or private?

Sunshine2988 · 30/10/2021 12:07

@Juno231 I had them both done privately, first as part of a fertility MOT thing and now I’m just starting to come through from treatment. I’m just waiting for a consultant to make a plan for us, but it was just such a shock to be so low for my age.

I vaguely recall there's two different scales for measuring amh- are you sure they are on the same basis?

Sunshine2988 · 30/10/2021 13:21

Yes there are there’s pmol/L and ng/mL. But double checked and they’re both pmol/L. My FSH was 5.6 last year as well, (done with NHS) but haven’t had that retested

Hi @Sunshine2988
My AMH was 6.09 in June 2020 and my AFC was 7. We had our first round of IVF last September and my sleeping DD is on my lap right now. It’s quality over quantity so start doing everything to improve quality now.
Buy ‘it starts with the egg’ and Zita West’s IVF Diet book and follow both.
It will be okay, you will be a Mum however it happens for you, I promise.
Baby #2 will most likely by DE conceived because we didn’t do banking rounds - have a think if this is something you’d want to do instead of going into transfers immediately.
I’ll answer any questions you have if you’d like - it’ll be ok. Xx

MrsMo21 · 30/10/2021 18:09

P.s I was 29 last year when it was 6.09

Sunshine2988 · 30/10/2021 20:42

Hi @MrsMo21thank you for replying, that’s so lovely to hear I’m so glad it worked for you. That’s what I'm hoping too - quality over quantity. I’m hopeful that age will still be on my side even though I might not get many eggs collected.
I will definitely have a look at those books, I'm currently taking pregnacare and some extra co enzyme q10, are there any other supplements you were advised to take?
At this stage we’d be happy just with one! But if we’re lucky enough to have multiple embryos we would store them, I hope all goes well for you when it comes to #2 for you Xx

So I took vitamin d, vitamin e, vitamin c, vitamin b complex, Dha, ubiquinol, Insitol & folate powder. But again, look at ‘it starts with the egg’ it’ll take you through what to take for your own circumstance.
I used to say that too about number two but just consider that you may feel differently when you have only one. My daughter is such a joy that I’m desperate to do it all again - I’m not saying you will be the same but I wish I’d considered banking rounds before starting my first transfer round.
I’ve got friends in the same medical position who made the decision to bank and now have 5 embryos in the freezer when I don’t have any due to low egg yield because of my AMH. Again, your call but having come out the other side I thought I’d mention it!

Good luck!

I can’t really give you any real reassurance, but didn’t want to read and run - I’m in a similar boat, if a couple of years further downstream, so I have some idea how you’re feeling.

I’m 36, and just got AMH checked privately (along with a few other bits), got the result back of 3.6 pmol/L. According to some things I’ve read short cycles are linked to low AMH, which makes my number make sense as from when I came off the pill at 22 until about two years ago my cycles were 21 days - they’ve lengthened to 24-27 days lately, I’m thanking the supplements for that I think. But since AMH shows reserve and short but still ovulating cycles would mean you go through more of the reserve it makes sense I guess. I just wish I’d realised sooner as I maybe could’ve found a way to lengthen my cycle sooner and slow the drop.

To say I was gutted when I got the result wouldn’t cover it, we’re looking at our options now, and hoping IVF will hold the answer as I’m sure you are.

Hoping it all works out well for you Smile
