Cyclogest HELP!?

Kirstysa98 · 19/10/2021 12:32

Hi all I’ve been prescribed cyclogest to help with short luth phase (around 9-10 days) last month I had suffered a chemical pregnancy, I’m just wondering my doctor say to take these from day 14-28 but I ovulate sometimes on day 19? Can anyone tell me their experience using them when ttc don’t want to take them earlier in case they stop ovulation the dose is 200mg once a day
Thanks everyone

Hi @Kirstysa98

I was talking cyclogest for a short luteal phase when under the care of a private consultant. I was taking along with an ovitrelle injection to trigger ovulation so knew when I ovulated and had to take it from 1dpo. I don't think you should be taking it before ovulation but not a medical expert- who prescribed it? I would have assumed they would have checked when you ovulate! I would double check with them.

I agree with @LondonladyTTC
You should only take Cyclogest after you've ovulated otherwise it can prevent ovulation. In my case, it was 3 days post ovitrelle trigger following a follicle scan. You could start temping, use OPK's and check your CM but none of these methods are 100% accurate.

@LondonladyTTC my gp prescripped it she thinks it can help me with getting pregnant but just wary as to getting ovulation right , maybe I should just hold off taking it until I get a positive ??

Oh wow, didn't even realise GPs would prescribe! Do you have any obvious post ovulation symptoms? I would start taking it was soon as you are absolutely sure you have ovulated (temping, OPks, tracking symptoms) or if you can't be sure, as you say taking it when you get a positive.

@LondonladyTTC
Yeah she said it’s worth giving a shot ?
Got a very strong positive opk on the 15th then a negative on the 16th so pretty sure I ovulated on the 15th ? So it’s 4 dpo don’t know to start or not not a lot of advice out there

@Kirstysa98 I hope you don’t mind me seeing how you got on? This is my last resort with TTC. I have a short luteal phase and start spotting from 7 dpo so my Dr has prescribed me cyclogest which has stopped the spotting but I’ve done 3 months of it and no pregnancy. X

Kirstysa98 · 28/09/2022 08:37

Stick it out took me 4 months I’m now sitting here holding my baby boy , in the 4th month I actually stopped cyclogest I done the lh strips and then noticed I was spotting maybe 10-14 dpo so I started taking cyclogest on 14 dpo defiantly owe it to cyclogest I continued till I was 33 weeks no need but just felt it like a security you will get there

Also use Premom app and order the strips on Amazon if your not already that’s what I done that month and used that preseed

And if your spotting from 7dpo and start the cyclogest it can make you stop ovulating that’s why you need to make sure your ovulating with the strips then wait 48 hours after your peak and start it

@Kirstysa98 Congrats on your baby boy! That is amazing news!

Mines secondary infertility. I have a 3 year old and we started TTC when he was 15 months and we got pregnant then lost her at 18 weeks which was Feb 2021 and haven’t managed to get pregnant since.

my spotting from 7 dpo started last July which is the month I had my covid vaccine. Then it just never rectified. I’m glad the cyclogest stops the spotting but I can’t help but think maybe we won’t get a sibling or it’s poor egg quality etc. I do use the easy at home strips and the pre mom and start my cyclogest at 2/3 dpo. I always confirm with my temps too so I know for definite. I just feel so deflated in month 4 and I’m 36 so worried time isn’t on my side. Thanks so so much for replying it means so much.z

Kirstysa98 · 28/09/2022 11:34

I felt the exact same and became so obsessed with it and literally the month I just said screw it if it happens it happens (still was doing the lh strips) it happens , your only 36 still young !

Did you try the smeg method ? Think I was kind of doing that that month

@Kirstysa98 ive done it that much over the last 16 months! This month I just wanted to take it in my stride so I only did Friday, Sunday and Monday. Sunday I got a positive OPK but Monday was more of a Peak and I tend to ovulate the day of peak.

I just can’t see it working for me now 😞 I’m getting impatient. It’s so cruel inferitlity. I’m secondary infertility xx

Loz2467 · 30/09/2022 16:23

@Kirstysa98 my clinic called me and I’ve ended up making an appointment to discuss IVF in October! I’m just so hesitant and I thought I’d get pregnant naturally again. I work in retail so realistically I’m not going to have a transfer before Xmas. I just don’t know what to do :(
