Pregnancy/miscarriage after hsg

Hi, I'm looking for other people's experiences please.

I had my hsg in Aug, my 7th cycle ttc, and managed to conceive that same cycle. Unfortunaly I miscarried between 6 and 7 weeks. I'm 39 next month and this will be my first so really feeling the pressure of time.

I am now in the 2ww immediately after my miscarriage as we tried as soon as I stopped bleeding.
Has anyone conceived soon after similar circumstances?

I am lucky enough to have been approved for ivf but not sure my nerves will take it as I've struggled so much with the process and disappointment that comes with ttc

Thank you. .

Hi Follyfoot82!

I'm so sorry for what you've been through. I had a similar situation, we were TTC for over a year then got pregnant straight after HSG, miscarried at 6.5 weeks. I've now had 3 cycles since my miscarriage and despite trying in all of them, have yet to get pregnant again. However, I have multiple friends who have conceived in the 1st and 2nd month after theirs, so there is definitely hope!

I have heard having a HSG improves your chances of pregnancy but I've not found any hard medical evidence as to why that is! I'm finding it so frustrating to keep trying and not knowing why I can't fall pregnant or why that even helped. Has your doctor given any helpful advice? I feel like asking for another HSG at this point even though it was the most painful thing I've ever experienced!!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you as I know what it feels like to so desperately want to be pregnant again. If it doesn't work out this month it might just be your body needs a little time (mine seems to need a ridiculous amount of time 😂...hey ho) x

Sorry for your loss Thanks.

I had a mmc after 8 cycles of ttc. I then fell pregnant after another 8 cycles and that pregnancy resulted in my 1 year old!

Thanks for your replies. This is my first ever thread on mumsnet although I've been lurking a long while!

@bfnancy, I am convinced that me conceiving after the hsg is more than coincidence like you say, even though my tubes were supposedly clear.
I'm desperately hoping that I can conceive again soon. Very best of luck to you too.

@Chanel05 thanks for your words of encouragement. X

Meant to say @bfnancy. I haven't really asked my gp but could try I suppose.

I'm sorry for your loss ❤️ I had a missed miscarriage and then had a hsg 3 months later (had been ttc over 18 months by that point so already in the system). I did conceive within 2 months of my hsg but miscarried again. I did manage to conceive naturally again twice after albeit took longer. Sadly I had more losses and once we identified the cause, I couldn't conceive naturally, so I have started ivf now.

I hope that your cycle settles soon. I was really apprehensive about ivf but after a long time ttc on our own, I found the ivf process less stressful than ttc naturally. Sending love x

@VenusStarr I can't imagine how devastating it must be to have experienced so many losses, I'm so sorry. Was the cause something that was progressively getting worse the longer you tried? How did you eventually pin it down? Will keep my fingers crossed for your IVF cycle

@Chanel05 I can imagine those 8 months post mmc must have been torture! It really sucks that it takes a bit longer for some of us but so pleased you were able to after the wait!

@Follyfoot82 how was your HSG, did it hurt? I think with mine it definitely cleared something as it was so painful. Sending hugs for your TWW, I'm 5DPO and it's going soooo slowly!!

@bfnancy it's SO hard when it takes so long. I've just started ttc number 2 and on cycle 2. I must be mad. Telling myself it'll take a long time and secretly hoping it won't.

VenusStarr · 18/10/2021 17:54

Thank you @bfnancy, we've been ttc for our first for 4 years now, it's been a long, dark journey. The reason for our losses are due to overactive nk cells, which is my immune system essentially attacking the pregnancy. My specialist thinks this is the cause of our subfertility and that my body kicks into action at ovulation, so I've been on a preconception plan. I also have low amh, which is linked with autoimmune issues, so think that's what we need ivf now. But in many ways it's taken away the stress of timing ttc etc. It was soul destroying. Hoping our ivf with the kitchen sink approach of all the meds works (I basically rattle now 🙂)
Hoping your cycle settles soon x

Ohhhh @Chanel05 good luck!! It's the secret hoping that gets us isn't it 😂 despite being 18 months in I still manage to convince myself every month that I'm pregnant. Those BFNs get me every time!!! Gahhh. Hope it's quicker for you this time!

@VenusStarr god it is awful you had to wait 4 years for a diagnosis that is absolutely crucial to your ability to conceive. What kind of things does your preconception plan include to manage the nk cells? Are you currently in a cycle or do you have one coming? Hoping it works out for you too!!

VenusStarr · 19/10/2021 07:20

We went private in the end @bfnancy the nhs testing took a long time and didn't show anything, even though 3 of my losses were almost carbon copies of each other and we tested one of the babies and he was healthy.
I'm on hydroxychloroquine, intralipids, aspirin, prednisolone, clexane and 2 types of progesterone for my ivf. We could still ttc naturally - that wouldn't include one of the progesterone supports or clexane, but to be honest, it's got to the point where ttc on our own is too stressful. We might revisit it if our last 2 embryos don't work.

Sorry for the reply @VenusStarr but thanks for the info - that's really interesting and sounds comprehensive! Lots of rattling!!! Fingers crossed this works out for you. So sorry it has been such a long journey though xxx
