Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has any tips for ttc on irregular periods? My cycles are anywhere from 30 days to 65 days 😫
we have only been ttc baby #2 for a month but just want to make sure I can do what I can in the hope we fall pregnant! 🤞 I am taking prenatal vitamins and trying to eat healthier and exercise more.
Thanks. X

I also have very irregular cycles and found the only way I’ve managed to get BFP is by using OPK’s nearly everyday of my cycle. I use the app Femometer to track my OPKs, you can take a photo and it will tell it the OPK is low, high or peak. Smile

Oceanarium thank you I will have a look into it and give them a go. I've never used OPK's before. I've heard people talk about Primrose oil also.

I’ve tried so many things (1st child is 6yrs old so have had many years of TTC). I’ve been told by doctors that’s it’s very likely I don’t ovulate on my longer cycles. Hence why OPKs have been amazing as you can properly pin down your ovulation day. It does take a little while to reading OPK results but as I said Femometer is brilliant for this!

Thank you so much. I will order some just now and give them a go. Does it matter if you test in the morning or night? Is there any you would recommend?

I just get a bulk buy from Amazon. I start by testing once a day, once the lines start getting darker I move move to twice a day to make sure I catch the peak test. It’s the only way I’ve ever been able to accurately pin point ovulation which is so important when TTC! Good luck Smile

I tried temping but never got on with it. Some people swear by temping though! So might be worth giving that a go Smile

Have you tried anything to regulate your periods?

I've heard people using things like agnus cactus to try and regulate their periods, and the cycle becomes shorter?

I think you need to stop if you've ovulated and start again in you start your period

Hi! My cycles are similar. I conceived both babies by having sex every other day from 10 days after my period started until it came again! Or didn’t! First baby I got a positive test on day 65 of that cycle and baby 2 was day 40. I think I tested weekly. Good luck 😊

@OceanPearl thank you. I will buy some and give it a go, see how I get on 🤞

@Porfre I've just recently heard of agnus cactus but don't really know much about it. Will sit tonight and have a look.

@Yogamummy23 thank you. My DH works alot so not always able to DTD as often as I would like. Hopefully if I track ovulation it might be a bit easier. 🤞

Have you got any idea of the underlying causes for why your periods are irregular? Mine are caused by PCOS, which makes OPKs notoriously unreliable. In the end we did a combination of diet + exercise, metformin and letrozole which led to our DD1. My GP referred me to the endocrinology team at our local hospital and they were amazing. Good luck ttc!

Glago2017 · 13/10/2021 18:44

@GuidingSpirit no I don't know what causes them to be irregular. They can be fine for a few months then irregular then back to normal. I do need to loose a bit of weight (about 1 stone) and have recently started exercising so hopefully that will help. 🤞 If not then I might go to my GP in a few months. 👍

Hi @Glago2017

Having regular periods sometimes is a good sign.... hopefully its an easy fix. Smile

There's a whole range of causes listed here for irregular periods >

However going to the GP for the basic tests is the quickest way to rule in or out known causes.

Halo

Started using OPK's this week as just finished my period. Only my 3rd day, and don't know if I'm doing it right. Does this look right?
