CD21 blood test

Looking for people with similar experiences.

Recently got test results back saying I have a folate deficiency & I'll be prescribed folic acid for the next 4 months.
I've to go back on CD 21 for more blood tests to see if I'm ovulating.

Anyone else in similar boats?

My predicted day of ovulation is today which is CD18 for me - wouldn't CD21 be too late?

I'm assuming that having the folate deficiency is probably why I'm struggling to conceive as well.
Also explains why I'm always so exhausted!

Cd21 bloods are aiming for AFTER you ovulate not day of ovulation. They check progesterone levels which indicate if you did or not

@TheDaydreamBelievers Thank you - I really wasn't sure & the nurse didn't explain either 🙃

If your predicted day of ovulation is day 18 then you should go for the blood test on day 25. It's only day 21 if you ovulate on day 14, which very few people do!

@Decaffe I actually think I'm ovulating today, did a test this morning & got a really dark line, whereas yesterday it was still quite pale in comparison.
My cycle is so irregular that's hard to tell half the time - so that might by why she's doing the test on day 21 which is Friday - just got told it had to be that day.

@Lianna93 hi OP, been here & it's really a waste of time to do your progesterone bloods on Friday if you ov'd today just as PP said. They are supposed to be done 7 DPO as that is when the levels are likely highest, they are just called 'day 21 bloods' because CD14 is what is deemed 'typical' for ov, but more often than not this isn't the case. Have a bit of a google into it & you'll see so many get called to have it on CD21 which isn't worth your while at all. It'll just show low progesterone & they'll assume you aren't ov'ing when actually you may be. I'd call them back, see if you could speak to GP/nurse and explain your situation, would worth your while standing your ground on this one

If you got your darkest line today then you would expect to be ovulating tomorrow (as the LH surge precedes ovulation by about 24 hours). In which case you would want to do your ‘day 21’ bloods next Thursday Smile

@Decaffe @lionsmum

This is all good to know - I also didn't realise that once I get a dark line on my test, I'm to expect ovulation in the next 24 hours, I just assumed that meant I already am ovulating 🙈😂 still all a massive learning point for me.

I'll contact my nurse & see what she says :)

No problem! It’s such a learning curve. Smile

In the meantime if you have got a strong OPK today then get busy today for sure and tomorrow if you have the energy! Wink

Decaffe · 13/10/2021 11:07

Today is statistically your most fertile day Smile

@Decaffe That is absolutely the plan haha! DH & I were too tired last night & I was gutted because I genuinely thought we were gonna miss our chance but was very chuffed to get that dark line today 😂
